(October 2, 2019) – Winchester Speedway has always held a special place to Speedway, Indiana’s Zachary Tinkle and his family. Tinkle’s Grandpa Larry Darr, who passed away in November 2018, grew up coming to races at Winchester and told Tinkle, if you can win at Winchester you can win anywhere. Tinkle did just that last October during Winchester 400 Weekend, when he led all 40 laps of the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Season Championship event to get his first feature win at Winchester and claimed the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman 2020 Season Championship with the win.
In 2020, Tinkle has been competing full-time with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance, getting a season high sixth place finish last Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway. Tinkle will be finishing the 2020 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour season on Friday, October 9th at Winchester, he is out of the Chase for the Championship, but still looks to close the season with a good run and possibly his first series win.
Tinkle’s Winchester 400 Weekend will not end on Friday, the team has filed an entry to compete in the 49th Annual Winchester 400 Presented by JEGS on Sunday, October 11th, one of the most prestigious Super Late Model events in the country. That event will be Tinkle’s second ever start with the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS, he raced in the Redbud 400 at Anderson Speedway in July of 2019.
“There really aren’t words to describe how excited I am to partake in the Winchester 400,” remarked Tinkle. “This track holds an incredibly special place for me since it’s where I first saw a live race at a young age. This came together very quickly, and I would like to thank my crew chief Gary Estes, Gordon Guffey, Eddie VanMeter, and Butch VanDoorn for moving so fast to make this happen for me. I went to elementary school in the area and am hoping that the stands are sold out with fans, family, and friends cheering me on!”
Tinkle is one of 32 cars currently entered to compete in the event which is being promoted this year by Bob Dilner with Speed 51. The event will feature racing action over three days on the famous high banked half mile track that first raced back in the early 1900’s. Friday will be the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Season Championship race for Tinkle. Saturday will feature practice and qualifying for the Winchester 400. The Winchester 400 will go green on Sunday at 1pm.
