“Winning!” Mills Picks up First Win of 2015 After Tough Day at Anderson

Huntersville, North Carolina (Tuesday, July 21, 2015): It was a weekend of extreme ups and downs for 18-year-old Matt Mills. Friday began “up.” The No. 5 Rick Turner Racing Pro Late Model was unloaded from the hauler sporting a new sponsor, Emerson Concepts, LLC. When the car hit the track, it was fast but issues began in qualifying and, unfortunately, a mechanical failure didn’t allow Mills to take the green flag. On Saturday, what felt like started “down” for the Ohio native, quickly turned into an “up.” Driving his family owned No. 4 Outlaw Super Late Model, nicknamed “Mach4,” Mills drove to victory lane in his heat race and scored a solid top-five finish in the feature.

For Mills, his first trip to the historic and very tricky (0.250) 1/4-mile Anderson Speedway located in Anderson, Indiana did not go as planned. Despite having what he believed to be a top-five car, a mechanical failure discovered during qualifying, ended his evening before he even took the green flag for the Anderson 100 Presented by JEGS.com. Although disappointed, he headed back to Ohio with one goal, to winon Saturday. He did just that, winning his heat race at Midvale Speedway (Ohio). He backed up his win with a solid top-five run, a fifth in the feature.

Friday was a bummer; we had a very fast car. Racing sometimes is not fair,” Mills said. “With all that being said, it was nice to pick up a heat race win and turn this luck around. We started 10th in the feature and turned the second fastest lap of the race. I thought I had a tire going down, but it ended up being water on the track. The caution came out, and we pitted. Unfortunately, we had to go to the back of the field but we were able to work our way back up to fifth.”

Mills will once again run double duty this coming weekend. He will race at Motordrome Speedway (Pa.) on Friday and Midvale Speedway (Ohio) on Saturday.

The Rick Turner Racing No. 5 Ford Fusion being driven by Mills in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour was sponsored by Emerson Concepts, LLC, Mills Motorsports, LLC, and McGunegill Engine Performance this weekend at Anderson Speedway (Ind.). The No. 4 Mills Motorsports Outlaw Super Late Model also driven by Mills, will continue to carry sponsorship from Thompson Electric Inc., DTS Screen Printing Embroidery, Kwest Group, Frontier Tool & Equipment Rental, Riddle Trucking, Sunshine Signs & Decals, Bleininger Family & Truck Repair, Bombs Away Bar & Grill, Pringles Body Shop, Bee Fit with Denise, Swan Fabrication, and Racecar Engineering.
