Salem, IN (September 12, 2018) – The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS will be back in action this Saturday at Anderson Speedway located in Anderson, IN, in the third of three series events at the fast quarter mile this season. Saturday’s event will be the second event of the series Chase for the Championship.
The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman kicked off their 2018 season at Mt. Lawn Speedway, on May 27th were Danny Trent went to victory lane. The series second event was contested on Saturday, June 23rd t Baer Field Motorsports Park were Tommy Cook got the win. The third event was the first Triple Crown event at Mt. Lawn Speedway on July 1st were Jeff Marcum got the win. Marcum made it two in a row with the win in the second Triple Crown race Anderson Speedway on July 14th. Marcum made it three series wins in a row with the win at Anderson Speedway on July 28th. Hunter Jack got the win in the final Triple Crown Series event at Baer Field Motorsports Park on August 18th. 2016 series Champion Eddie Van Meter got the win in the series last event on September 3rd at Winchester Speedway.
With his second place finish at Winchester on Labor Day, Tony Brutti has the lead in the 2018 Chase for the Championship points of the six drivers trying to win the series 2018 Championship. With non-Chase driver Van Meter winning the series 2018 Chase for the Championship opener, points will be very important in Saturday’s second Chase event as only four of the six Chase drivers will get to compete for the series 2018 Championship on Winchester 400 Weekend.
2007 series Champion Billy Hutson and Brandon Varney are tied for second in Chase points, they are seven points behind Brutti. Rookie Zachary Tinkle is in fourth place, he is eight points behind Hutson and Varney. Neil McClelland is in fifth place, he is three points behind Tinkle. Chris Shannon is in sixth place, he is five points behind McClelland.
2016 and 2017 Anderson Speedway Late Model Champion Marcum, currently leads the Anderson Speedway McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models points to date. Marcum is six for six in McGunegill Engine Performance Late Model wins so far this season, plus his win in the July 14th and July 28th series events. Dustin Burge is second in McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models points, followed by Kent Carson in third, Rich Segvich in fourth and Ronnie Rose in fifth place. Many of the McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models are expected to race in Saturday night’s event.
There is an open practice on Friday at Anderson Speedway from 5 to 8pm. Pit Gates open on Saturday at 3:30pm. Practice will begin at 5pm, qualifications will begin at 6:30pm. The race program will begin at 8pm and will include the 75 lap event for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman. Also racing Saturday will be the Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks in a 75 lap feature, the Vore’s Compact Touring Series and the
Mel Kenyon Midgets.
