Salem, IN (September 28, 2020) – Richmond, Michigan native and third-generation racer Brandon Varney got his first Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS win on August 22nd at Anderson Speedway, Varney took the lead on lap 40 and went on to get his second series win and second straight at Anderson Speedway Saturday night at Anderson Speedway.
“When there were five laps to go, I was hoping there wouldn’t be another caution,” remarked Varney. “When that final caution flag waved coming to checkers by heart was pounding. But I got a good restart and was able to hold off Tanner (Jack) and get this win. In some ways this win is sweeter than the first one back in August. I have to thank my crew and my dad, without their support I wouldn’t be here standing in victory lane!”
Danny Adams grabbed the early lead from his pole starting position after Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Hunter Jack drew an eight for the events inverted start. 2019 series Champion Tony Brutti got the lead from Adams on lap four, but only for one lap, J.P. Crabtree passed Brutti with an outside move on the front straight to grab the lead on lap five. Crabtree would lead until lap 11 when Hunter Jack went to the point. Hunter Jack would lead to lap 39 before sustaining damage spinning to avoid an incident between Cassten Everidge and Ralph Harrod.
From there Varney would go on to get the win by, holding off Tanner Jack on a late restart with two laps to go. For out dueling Tanner Jack on the late restart, Varney picked up the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award.
Tanner Jack would finish in second, he was trying to make it two series wins in a row after winning the series previous event at Fall Brawl at Lucas Oil Raceway on September 20th. Jack was the highest finisher of the Chase for the Championship drivers, he was already locked into the final four drivers to race for the series Championship after being the series regular Season Champion and winning the Chase event at Lucas Oil Raceway.
“Brandon just got a better restart there with two laps to go,” remarked Tanner Jack. “The car was a little loose coming off the corners and I wasn’t getting the forward bite I needed to make the pass.”
2007 series Champion Billy Hutson came from his seventh place starting position to finish in third, for his charge to the front, Hudson picked up the KRJ Race Products Sweet Move of the Race Award. Hudson also locked himself into one of the four drivers to compete for the series Championship at Winchester Speedway.
Crabtree would finish in fourth place with 2020 Anderson Speedway late model Champion Jeff Marcum in fifth place. Danny Adams would finish in sixth. Auston Coe would finish in seventh, he was already locked into the final four drivers to race for the series Championship after winning the Chase for the Championship opener at Mt. Lawn Speedway.
Cassten Everidge would finish in eighth and locked himself into the final four drivers to race for the series Championship. Paige Rogers finished in ninth in her series debut with Buddy Davis in 10th place.
