Salem, IN (September 6, 2016) – Veteran CRA competitor Eddie Van Meter continued his dominating season in the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS by getting the his fifth series feature win in a row Monday afternoon on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway. It was the six over all win of the season for the Indianapolis native out of the eight events held so far this season.
“It feels great to get the win here at Winchester,” remarked Van Meter in victory lane. “I have to thank my wife for letting me do this and my crew chief Jeff Lane and all my team who have worked really hard this season. To get this many wins in a row is awesome, we are having a good year in this car!”
RJ Norton took the early lead from his outside pole starting position, but Billy Van Meter, Eddie’s son, made the inside pass on Norton on lap 3 to get the lead. Eddie Van Meter would work his way to second and started immediately working on his son to get the lead. Billy was able to hold off his dad until lap 23 when Eddie was able to get by.
Shawn Amor had worked his way to third and was able to pass Billy Van Meter for second as the race started to wind down. Amor’s car then started to slow allowing Billy Van Meter to pass, the next lap Amors car slowed drastically at the finish line on lap 37 with problems and started to go low when contact was made with Tony Brutti that started a huge wreck in turn one involving five cars with Brutti’s car going upside down and sliding down the track. All five drivers were okay, only Austin Coe’s car was able to continue of the five cars that were involved.
Eddie Van Meter was able to pull away from his son on the restart to get the win. Billy Van Meter would finish in second. Colby Lane would finish in third place, his series best finish. Dave Barnhart finished in fourth in his series debut. Coe would finish in fifth place.
Eddie Van Meter was the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier and picked up the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race for the pass on his son to get the lead. Lane picked up Hardcharger Awards from Racing Electronics and High Side Printing & Advertising after gaining nine positions to finish third.
