Two Month Layoff Has Chad Finley Itching To Get Back To Racing

Southern Super Series Doubleheader Weekend in Florida and Alabama up next

Mooresville, North Carolina (Thursday, May 21, 2015): It’s been a long layoff from racing for Chad Finley as far as the DeWitt, Michigan native climbing behind the wheel himself. It doesn’t mean he hasn’t been busy though. His Chad Finley Racing Driver Development program is in full swing with Robby Lyons behind the wheel of the #2 CFR entry in the CARS Super Late Model Tour. After two months of inactivity though, the 23-year-old is ready to do some driving himself and he’ll get plenty of track time over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.

A doubleheader weekend of Southern Super Series racing is set for Friday-Saturday, May 22-23rd as Finley will make the trip west from the Mooresville, North Carolina race shops to compete. Up first will be the fast 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida as the home of the Snowball Derby will host the R.S. Rubber and Specialties 100. Then the following day a short trip south and west to another 1/2 mile, this time Mobile International Speedway in Mobile, Alabama will complete the weekend with the Miller Lite 100.

“I’m excited to finally get back behind the wheel this weekend for the Gulf Coast swing. We are really looking forward to getting to Pensacola especially after losing our car in a fire at the Snowball Derby last December,” Stated Finley. “We have been building two cars over the off-season and I’m looking forward to getting back on track and having a solid weekend. We have been extremely busy this year with our development driver Robby Lyons and building our program up. It will be a nice change of pace this weekend to get back in the car and see where our program is at and how we can improve it.” He ended.

In Finley’s last race, back on March 15th, South Alabama Speedway, located north of the Alabama / Florida state line in Opp, Alabama hosted the 39th running of the Rattler 250 which was also the 2015 season opener for the Southern Super Series. A first lap accident involving multiple cars saw Finley at the wrong place at the wrong time when the two leaders in front of him collided. Finley had nowhere to go resulting in heavy damage and was unable to continue.

Finley’s only other event behind the wheel thus far in 2015 was SpeedFest 2015 at another 4/10s mile oval, Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia back on January 25th. He overcame electrical problems throughout practice and qualifying day and rebounded on race day in the headlining SpeedFest 200 for the ARCA/CRA Super Series and brought home the events Hard-Charger and Most Improved Driver Awards for the race with his 22nd to sixth place run.

After the Gulf Coast doubleheader weekend, CFR’s Driver Development program with Robby Lyons behind the wheel will be next to race as Lyons, who calls Clearwater, Florida home will make his JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance debut. The Mercy Masters of the Pros 144 is at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, Missouri on Saturday, May 30th and is one of the richest paying Pro Late Model races in the country.

So far and for the rest of the 2015 racing season, Lyons has been competing with the CARS Super Late Model Tour while Finley will also race himself in select events within the Southern Super Series as well as also returning to his home state of Michigan and compete in select ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS and JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance events when his schedule allows.
