Tough Luck, Tough Night for Mills

Huntersville, North Carolina (Tuesday, July 7, 2015): While honoring our country with a special paint scheme this weekend in the biggest race of his career so far, the Mercy Masters of the Pros 144, Matt Mills drove the wheels off the No. 5 Thompson Electric Ford Fusion. Once again bad luck struck, and he didn’t score the finish he deserved.

The Mercy Masters of the Pros 144 is one of the biggest races in Pro Late Model competition today. This year’s edition of the event did not disappoint with almost 40 drivers attempting to qualify for the 144-lap race. Mills was able to qualifying his No. 5 into the race despite breaking a trailing arm mount in practice. The Ohio wheelman started 24th and began working his way through traffic. An early long green flag run, trapped many drivers including Mills a lap down. He was never able to recover, finishing 20th.

“I-44 was one of the faster tracks I’ve been on and enjoyed the track but fought some gremlins in the car,” Mills said. “We struggled all day with a tight car but got it much better in the race. That long green run at the beginning of the race really hurt us. Overall though it was a good clean race. We loaded up without a scratch on the car, and it turned out to be a good points day as well.”

This coming Friday, Mills will head to the Dixie Motor Speedway located in Birch Run, Mich., to compete in the Dixie 100 Presented by JEGS.com. This will be Mills’ first trip to the fast (0.400) 4/10-mile track. The next day, Mills will climb back into his family owned No. 4 Outlaw Super Late Model at his home track, Midvale Speedway located in Midvale Speedway.
