Third race of Lucas Oil Raceway Stock Car Series Presented by Visit Hendricks County
Brownsburg, Indiana (Friday, July 3, 2015): The third race of the Lucas Oil Raceway Stock Car Series Presented by Visit Hendricks County would once again feature the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Powered by JEGS. The fast 0.686 mile progressively banked paved oval of Lucas Oil Raceway, located west of Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana served as hosts of the LOR Fourth Of July 30.
In the 30-lap main, ARCA/CRA Super Series competitor over the past several seasons, Terry Fisher Jr., who has been racing weekly at his home track of Baer Field Speedway near his Ossian, Indiana home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 2015 made the trip to the Circle City worthwhile. The 29-year-old driver of his #28 Coe Heating & Air Conditioning / Fisher Fabrication / Chevrolet took the lead from fellow ARCA/CRA driver, Eddie Van Meter with 13 laps to go and pulled away to his first CRA Late Model Sportsman Series victory since the 2012 season, which also came at Lucas Oil Raceway.
Fisher Jr.’s winning pass of Van Meter earned him the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race award as this win was the fourth career in CRA LMS competition. His win moves him into a three-way tie for sixth all-time in career wins with Justin Alsip and the late Al Cook Jr. His previous wins in the CRA LMS have come at LOR, his most recent triumph, back on June 9th, 2012 while also visiting victory lane at Winchester Speedway back on October 4th, 2009 and he also won the third race ever in series history back on May 21st, 2006 at Baer Field.
Van Meter, making a rare CRA Late Model Sportsman Series appearance, came home in second place in his #23 EDCO Welding / Chevrolet. The 44-year-old veteran, who earlier in the season won his first ARCA/CRA Super Series event in nine seasons at near-by Anderson Speedway and is currently third in the points standings in CRA’s premier tour, was making just his fifth ever CRA LMS start. The Indianapolis, Indiana pilot didn’t go home empty-handed as he did secure the Racing Electronics Second to None award.
Defending CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Champion, Greg Van Alst finished off the podium positions with a third place showing, tying a season high. The Anderson, Indiana competitor in his #35 Top Choice Fence & Deck / Ford moved into tie for the points lead with Jason Atkinson after also winning his second Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier award of the year. The 34-year-old driver has been busy in 2015 as he also serves as Car Owner and Crew Chief for Mark Lambert, who is running for the Rookie of the Year title in the ARCA/CRA Super Series.
Shawn Amor collected a fourth place finish in his #28 Whitman’s Auto Sales / Chevrolet and the 36-year-old driver (Who turns 37 on July 8th) maintains his lead in the LOR Stock Car Series points standings. The Plymouth, Indiana driver is concentrating solely on the one-track series within the CRA LMS and has been rewarded so far with three top fours in the first three races. 17-year-old Jared Thomas completed the top five in his #96 T-K Trucking / Ford. The North Vernon, Indiana driver, like Amor, is also concentrating solely on the LOR Stock Car Series Presented by Visit Hendricks County.
19-year-old Billy Van Meter, Eddie’s son, finished in sixth position while 16-year-old Jack Dossey III, the 2014 Rookie of the Year and overall runner-up, was seventh. Overall CRA LMS points leader, Jason Atkinson finished eighth and now shares that points lead with Van Alst heading into the next event while current Rookie of the Year points leader, Matthew Parsons finished in ninth over Keith Lyons who completed the top 10 in his first appearance in the series since the 2008 racing season, a span of seven years.
Van Alst won his second Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier of the season over a 21-car field with a 23.392 which measures out to 105.575mph. The CRA LMS Track Record at LOR remains in the possession of Shawn Amor who became the first CRA LMS driver ever to break into the 22-second barrier when he turned a 22.879 back on April 24th, 2015. Van Alst and Josh Timmerman picked up the special Preliminary Heat Race victories.
The next race on the 2015 schedule for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Powered by JEGS will be on Friday, July 17th as the series will be a part of the prestigious Stoops Freightliner Redbud 300 weekend at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana. The Redbud 75 is set for the fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval as the series will be joined by the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance for Day I of the prestigious weekend.
There have been 29 all-time CRA LMS races at Anderson as Jason Atkinson leads the way with the most victories at the Central Indiana speed plant with six career wins. Two-Time Series Champion (2011 & 2006) Keith Sterkowitz is next on the list with four total victories. Another Two-Time Series Champion, (2010 & 2009) Charlie Hanna and the late Al Cook Jr., both have two wins each and so do Chris Hacker and Trey Craig.
Scott Tomasik and 2014 Rookie of the Year, 16-year-old Jack Dossey III have scored the most recent wins during the 2015 racing season while Defending Series Champion, Greg Van Alst is the defending race winner for the CRA LMS during Redbud Weekend. 2008 Series Champion, Tony Dager has a single victory while Quinnton Bear, Danny Trent, Jeff Marcum, Ronnie Rose, Brett Robinson, Steve Stacy and Steve Blair also have one trip to victory lane each.
