Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie points leader looking to finish year strong in final two races
Avon, Indiana (Thursday, September 24, 2015): Going into the 2015 racing season, the #1 goal for 19-year-old Quinnton Bear and his Quinnton Bear Racing Team was the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. With that crown all but a foregone conclusion, the Avon, Indiana teenager is looking for nothing less than a trip to victory lane, or two, in the last two events of the race season. The next event on the schedule is a ‘home game’ for the Hoosier State teenager as it is just five minutes from his house.
The immaculate 0.686 mile progressively banked paved oval of Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, located west of the Circle City in Brownsburg, Indiana will host the 2015 McGunegill Engine Performance CRA Fall Brawl on Saturday-Sunday, September 26-27th. The Stacked Pickle 100 Presented by Advanced Racing Suspensions will see the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour contingent go 100 laps for the coveted CRA Fall Brawl Boxing Gloves. As Bear is still in search of his first JEGS/CRA win, the traditional trophies would be the perfect souvenirs for his first ever victory.
“LOR to me is the hardest track that I’ve raced on, but one of the most fun to race on too. We’ll be representing my hometown so to speak with only living five minutes away,” Offered Bear as he and his team prepare for the short jaunt to the famed facility. “Once again this #94 team and I will give 110% this weekend and try and get that first win. I really have to thank my family for all of the support they have shown for me throughout the season and it would be huge to get that first win at my home track.”
“We’re feeling strong going there for the first time in a JEGS/CRA car.” Bear continued. “We had a strong car there last year in the CRA Late Model Sportsman race and learned a lot earlier this year in the Circle City 100 ARCA/CRA Super Series race there back in July. We’ve learned a lot this season and have been competitive everywhere we’ve gone. It’s all just a matter of everything coming together perfectly for us to finally get to victory lane. It’s coming. I’m just so very blessed to be racing with this group of talented drivers in this Tour every weekend. They make me a better driver each week and when, hopefully, we finally do get that first win, it’ll show that we belong with this group.” He stated.
Bear’s #94 Sparco / Chevrolet was close to taking that first JEGS/CRA checkered flag in the last race at Springport Motor Speedway. The fast 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval located north of Jackson and south of Lansing in Springport, Michigan hosted the Michigan Cup 100 Presented by JEGS.com on Saturday, September 19th. In the race and after a lengthy battle with race leader, Jordan Dahlke, Bear briefly took the lead on lap 76 only to see it go away after contact between the two drivers sent them both to the rear of the field.
“Springport didn’t go as planned. We had a very fast racecar in the race. I made the pass for the lead and thought we had the race won until the very next corner when we got turned.” Bear stated matter of factly. “We still fought our way back up to sixth, but that was a very disappointing finish for the whole 94 team who has worked their tales off all year going for wins. Everything has to happen right in order for a win to happen and unfortunately it just hasn’t happened for us yet this year. With two races to go and two of my favorite tracks, it’s coming though. I can feel it. A big thanks to all of the sponsors and everyone that has supported us all year long. Without them, we wouldn’t even be here.” He ended.
In the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, Bear is very close to clinching the coveted top freshman award in the chase for the coveted Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title. A strong finish at LOR will clinch the rookie award for him. In addition, he is also sitting an impressive third overall in points. He has four top five finishes with a season high showing of a second at Dixie Motor Speedway (MI) on July 10th in the Dixie 100 Presented by JEGS.com. He also has five top 10 showings and is only driver left to have competed in every JEGS/CRA race this season including the non-points SpeedFest 2015 back in January at Watermelon Capital Speedway (GA).
Also in his four ARCA/CRA Super Series starts, two in the Travis Braden Motorsports ride and two in his own JEGS/CRA legal car utilizing a crate motor, Bear has recorded two top five finishes with a career high second place finish at Kalamazoo Klash XXIII in the Boyne Machine Company 125 at Kalamazoo Speedway (MI) on August 12th. He also has three top 10 showings. Bear has plans on racing in the 44th Running of the Winchester 400 on October 9-11th at Winchester Speedway (IBN and will still keep his 2016 Rookie eligibility intact for the full schedule next season.
