Sunoco Returns to Fuel ARCA Midwest Tour In 2013

by Gregg Paul
The ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings is excited to have Sunoco Fuels back on board as a sponsor for the 2013 season. Sunoco and the ARCA Midwest Tour first became partners back in 2011, but Sunoco’s involvement in racing dates back much further than that.

“Sunoco has been producing quality fuels for over 125 years and has been involved in racing since the early 1970’s,” said Terry Thompson of Sunoco Fuels. “In the first 20 or so years, Sunoco produced and marketed high quality racing fuel under the “Cam2” brand. From the very beginning Sunoco supported grassroots race tracks and series throughout the country even though we did not use our racing heritage to promote the Sunoco brand until the late-1990’s when we began to sell racing fuel under the Sunoco brand. Today, the general population knows Sunoco, in part, because of our involvement with NASCAR, Indycar, Grand Am and the other series at the very pinnacle of American racing. Even some of the older racers may not be aware that Sunoco has been supporting their sport for more than four decades and that support has always included local tracks and local and regional series from the Atlantic to the Pacific.”

The long history of Sunoco’s involvement in racing and their continued devotion to the success of regional racing divisions made for a natural fit with the ARCA Midwest Tour.

“We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to be involved with and help support the Midwest Tour beginning in 2011,” said Thompson. “It fit our profile of a very well run and well respected series that provides a great venue for upcoming racers and the racing fans throughout the Midwest. Now that they have partnered with ARCA to create the ARCA Midwest Tour, we are even more excited. ARCA brings a level of experience and professionalism that is very difficult for a regional series to match, no matter how well it is managed. But, more importantly, both organizations share the moral, ethical, and professional values that are at the heart of Sunoco’s philosophy.”

ARCA Midwest Tour Vice President Steve Einhaus spoke about Sunoco’s involvement.

“I don’t think there is a better brand in the world when it comes to quality, performance, support, and the longevity of knowing they will always be there for us and our competitors. It has been a great experience dealing with everyone from the main office down to our distributors. The Sunoco organization is a “class act” from top to bottom and we wouldn’t have it any different. We are happy that they enjoy the relationship and we are here to grow stronger with them each and every year,” stated Einhaus.

Sunoco will be supplying the fuel powering every racecar competing in the ARCA Midwest Tour during the 2013 season.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned 30 ARCA national champions in 60 seasons since 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 26 states since its inception. The series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.375 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course in its most recent season.

Founded by John and Mildred Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in four professional touring series and local weekly events.
