Knack for new track success continues for Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year point’s leader
Avon, Indiana (Thursday, August 6, 2015): Over the past season and a half of racing full-bodied racecars, 19-year-old Quinnton Bear has developed a knack for doing exceptionally well at tracks he had never seen before until that days races. That unique ability occurred throughout his rookie year in a Late Model in 2014 with the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and it continues in 2015 with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance. One track that gives everyone fits the first time they go there was just another new track to adapt to for Bear in his last race.
The famed 7/16s (0.437) mile semi-banked paved oval of Berlin Raceway, located west of Grand Rapids in Marne, Michigan hosted the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour in the running of the Berlin 100 Presented by JEGS.com & Boyne Machine Company. The historic West Michigan speed plant has given even the best drivers in the country fits the first time they race there. In the case of Bear though, the Avon, Indiana simply did the same thing he has always done throughout his brief career, he learned quickly and was a contender throughout the race.
After starting on the pole after the inversion draw was a six, Bear led the way for the first 22 laps and would stay in the top five the entire race en route to an impressive fifth place outing in his first ever race at Berlin. With his third top five finish of the season, the Hoosier State teenager moved up to third overall in the JEGS/CRA Drivers Points Standings and extended his already healthy points lead in the chase for the 2015 Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the premier Pro Late Model tour in North America.
“We’re really happy to come out with another top five finish this season and definitely a big boost in points with extending our lead in the rookie points and movie to third in the overall driver’s points,” The happy driver stated after the race. “Berlin was one of the tougher tracks that we’ve ran this year. It certainly didn’t help with barely getting an hour of practice on the track all weekend. We had some throttle problems in practice and a little in the feature that limited my driving ability. But overall a great race for us. We’re excited to learn another new track and see what this 94 crew can do. We’re still looking for that first win.” Bear smiled.
That first win could come at another unique layout; the 0.393 mile semi-banked paved oval of Auto City Speedway located north of Flint in Clio, Michigan on Saturday, August 8th. The Dog Days of Summer 100 Presented by JEGS.com will be the sixth new track out of the seven overall JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour races held so far this season for Bear.
In the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour so far in 2015, Bear is the top freshman by a wide margin while sitting an impressive third overall in points. He has three top five finishes with a season high finish of a second at Dixie Motor Speedway (MI) on July 10th in the Dixie 100 Presented by JEGS.com. His top five’s also account for his three top 10 showings and he is one of only two drivers to have competed in every JEGS/CRA race this season when including the non-points SpeedFest 2015 back in January at Watermelon Capital Speedway (GA).
After the event at Auto City, Bear will then have only a couple of days to prepare for his next event. A return to the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS and another visit to a new track. The fast 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked paved oval of Kalamazoo Speedway (MI) in Kalamazoo, Michigan for the Kalamazoo Klash 125. The ARCA/CRA Super Series will be a part of the biggest Outlaw bodied Super Late Model show in the country on Wednesday, August 12th.
