Fans and Competitors to See More Improvements in the Facility
Salem, Indiana (August 18, 2016) – Champion Racing Association officials and the management at Crisp Motorsports Park – Home of the Watermelon Capital Speedway have released the dates for CRA SpeedFest 2017. The prestigious pre-season event featuring Super Late Models and Pro Late Models will be held on Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, January 29th. As is tradition, this event is held the weekend prior to the Super Bowl every year. This will be the 6th straight year that SpeedFest has been held at Crisp Motorsports Park – Home of the Watermelon Capital Speedway, which is located in Cordele, Georgia.
“We are very excited to have CRA SpeedFest once again at Crisp Motorsports Park Home of the Watermelon Capital Speedway and to work with Promoter Wayne Lyle,” remarked R.J. Scott, managing Partner with CRA. “Wayne and his crew do a great job and we are very pleased to go back to Cordele and interact with all the great staff, racers and fans.”
This will be the third year for Speedway owner Wayne Lyle to host the CRA SpeedFest at his facility. Each year he has made significant improvements to the facility and the 2017 version of the event will see even more. On the competitor’s side, everyone will note the changes currently being made to the run-off area in turns 3 and 4. Lyle and his staff are re-grading and filling in the land outside of the turns for a smooth and even run-off for cars that leave the track. According the Lyle, “I will eliminate that problem of cars getting torn up out there, and they will be able to return to the track much easier.”
On the facilities side, improvements since last year’s CRA SpeedFest include the parking lot being finished and fenced to hold 4000 spectators, finished new bathrooms, 17 permanent camps sites with hookups plus numerous additional primitive sites. In addition, spectators will soon be able to purchase tickets online and everyone will benefit from the use of a new state of the art timing system.
Later this year, Lyle and his staff will be bringing in for the winter, a one of a kind ride along race car that is wheel chair compatible. “We are working on getting some NASCAR drivers involved in trying to host people of all handicaps, including those in quadriplegic wheel chairs,” Lyle commented. After reviewing all the improvements, changes and additions, he went on to say, “I want to turn this into a top facility and every year people will see more and more improvements.”
CRA SpeedFest 2017 will once again consist of an ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS special non-points event and a JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance special non-points event. Additional information about CRA SpeedFest 2017 will be released at a later date.
