Salem, IN (May 15, 2017) – The ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS will continue its 21st season of competition this coming weekend with the RustyWallaceCars.com 100 as part of the inaugural Short Track U.S. Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway Presented by Vore’s Welding. More than 400 race cars split among six classes are expected to be in competition during the three-day event, including racing in Super Late Models, Pro/Crate Late Models, Late Model Stocks, Modifieds, Street Stocks and Compacts.
That Short Track U.S. Nationals will be the first time ever that the ARCA/CRA Super Series, the Southern Super Series and the CARS Super Late Model Tour have co-sanctioned an event together. The three premier Super Late Model touring series have worked together for years with a common rules package and working with each other’s schedules, especially each series premier events. The ARCA/CRA Super Series and Southern Super Series have co-sanctioned an event at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville each of the last two seasons and the Southern Super Series and the CARS Super Late Model Tour will co-sanction an event on June 10th, but this will be the first time all three have worked together on a single event.
With the Short Track U.S. Nationals format and high car count, the event will be a special point’s event for all three series. For the ARCA/CRA Super Series teams, the event will be an 80 point minimum event, every team that has a car at the event will receive 80 points, which is just like finishing 10th in a normal ARCA/CRA Super Series event. Teams can only receive additional points by qualifying in the top five for Saturday’s 50 lap Qualifying races or finishing in the top 10 of the RustyWallaceCars.com 100 on Sunday. There will be no points awarded for the 50 lap Qualifying races that will take place on Saturday or for the qualifying for the RustyWallaceCars.com 100 on Sunday.
The entry list for the RustyWallaceCars.com 100 is full of talent from all over the country. Entries have been received from NASCAR Xfinity Series competitor Bubba Wallace, former NASCAR competitor Steve Wallace, 2016 Southern Super Series Champion Donnie Wilson, 2016 CARS Super Late Model Tour Champion Rapheal Lessard, Augie Grill, Ben Rowe, Brandon Setzer, Cale Gale, Noah Gragson, Stephen Nasse, Erik Darnell, Cole Anderson, and Tyler Ankrum and just to name a few.
The ARCA/CRA Super Series is also well represented, two-time series Champion and defending Winchester 400 winner Travis Braden is entered, as is 2016 Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year and 2016 Redbud 300 winner Dalton Armstrong. Other CRA drivers entered include Wes Griffith Jr., Mason Mingus, Joey Mucciacciaro, Dakota Stroup, Jason Timmerman, Tommy St. John, Fred Hopkins and 2017 Senneker Performance rookie competitors Josh Brock, Hunter Jack and Logan Runyon.
The Short Track U.S. Nationals will kick off on Thursdays with pre-parking in the pits and pit pass sales starting at 12noon until 7pm. There will be a party at the track from 7pm to 9:30pm with music, refreshments and door prizes. On Friday there will be open practice for all divisions. Pits will open at 8am. Open practice will start at 11am with rotating sessions for all six divisions. Open practice will go until 8:35pm.
Pits open on Saturday at 7:30am. Practice for all six divisions will begin at 9:30am. Late Model qualifying will begin at 3:30pm. The Super Late Models will group qualify with five cars per group. Groups will be split by practice times starting from the five fastest down to the slowest. The Super Late Models will then be split into an odd and even 50 lap Qualifying race, which will be first up on Saturday’s racing program, which is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm. The top ten finishers of each qualifying race will be locked into Sunday’s RustyWallaceCars.com 100.
Pits open on Sunday at 9am. There will be warm-up sessions beginning at 11am . All the Super Late Model teams locked into the RustyWallaceCars.com 100 will re-qualify at 1pm. The racing action is set to begin on Sunday at 2pm with the Super Late Model 35 lap B Feature. The top four finishers from the B Feature, those that did not qualify form the 50 lap Qualifying races or didn’t receive a provisional, will transfer to the RustyWallaceCars.com 100 completing the 36 car starting field. The provisional starters will come from the three provisionals each from the three series involved, plus three Bristol promoter options. The RustyWallaceCars.com 100 will be the first of three 100 lap late model features on Sunday as driver’s battle at the “Last Great Colosseum” to be crowned a 2017 U.S. Nationals Champion!
