Salem, IN (Monday, June 5, 2023) – The first points paying event of the 2023 season for the ASA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS was held Saturday in Southern Indiana at Salem Speedway. A strong contingent of drivers unloaded for the $5,000 payday including defending ASA STARS National Tour winner, Gio Ruggiero, 2022 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance Champion, Dakota Stroup, former Redbud 400 Champion, Dalton Armstrong, and first time JEGS Tour winner, Chase Burda.
After setting fast time earlier in the day, Jordan Riddick rolled from the third spot thanks to his redraw. That handed things to Chase Burda and Dalton Armstrong to bring the field to green. Burda held the top spot for the first rotations, but coming off turn two he was split three wide going down the backstretch by Riddick and Armstrong. Riddick was able to take sole possession of the top spot coming off turn four and lead through the competition caution at lap 50.
Setting up for the restart, Riddick elected to line-up on the inside line, handing the typically preferred top line to second place running Ruggiero. On the start, Riddick tried to hold his spot by getting a drive off corner exit leaving turn two, however, Ruggiero got a better run and took the lead exiting turn four. That was the last time the top spot was contested in the race as Ruggiero went on to win ahead of Riddick and Armstrong who rounded out the podium.
The next event for the ASA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS is Sunday, July 2nd at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway for the North/South Super Late Model Challenge. This event is co-sanctioned by the ASA Southern Super Series.
