Second ARCA/CRA Super Series start to come in one of the biggest races in the country
Camden, Ohio (Wednesday, October 7, 2015): As Kody Evans continues with the remainder of the 2015 racing season, diversity has been the word thrown around when describing his campaign. From Pro Late Models to Dirt Late Models to Super Late Models to the ARCA Racing Series Presented by Menards, the 17-year-old has gained valuable experience in a wide variety of machines, tracks and layouts. All of the hard work and dedication, despite some difficult times has led Evans to one of the biggest races of his young career; the 44th Running of the Winchester 400.
Evans will pilot the #12 Mark Reedy Racing / Ford for the second time this season at the legendary 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Winchester Speedway (IN). The Buckeye State teenager will make his second career ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS start and it’s in the crown jewel on the ARCA/CRA schedule. Coming off of an impressive 12th place run in his ARCA Racing Series debut at Salem Speedway (IN) back on September 19th for Mason Mitchell Motorsports, Evans is looking ahead to the longest race of his career.
“This is only my second Super Late Model race ever. We have the car and crew to easily finish top five. I’ve only ran one race with live pit stops and that was my first ARCA start at Salem Speedway, and it didn’t bother me, our pit stops were pretty good.” Offered the Camden, Ohio teenager as he prepares for one of the biggest races of his young career. “This is going to be the toughest field I’ve ever faced. I know if we finish all the laps and don’t have any issues we can come out of this with a solid finish and cap the year off on a great note.” He added.
In his last start overall, the Federated Car Care Fall Classic 200 at Salem, Evans, driving a team car to Austin Wayne Self for 2014 Championship winning team, Mason Mitchell Motorsports, Evans qualified an impressive 14th quick in Menards Pole Qualifying out of 33 cars on the property. Despite his first time racing in an event featuring live pit stops, Evans went on to record a 12th place showing. He finished ahead of Self as well as 10-time ARCA Champion, Frank Kimmel in the event.
“As a team we are very proud of Kody after his first ever ARCA start with us. I’ve been watching him for awhile running his others cars.” Added Tyler Monn, Talent Relations for Mason Mitchell Motorsports. “He was fast right out of trailer and adapted to the ARCA cars quickly. Cautions didn’t fall our way, but he had a great shot at top five and speeds showed it. He is an up and coming driver that has the talent and I’m excited to go be around him this weekend for the Winchester 400 as he shows that talent. We look to have a great future and can’t say enough how proud we are of him as a team.” Monn added.
Despite missing two JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour races, Evans is still just outside of the top 10 in the driver’s point’s standings in 11th. He has one top five finish, which was in his last JEGS/CRA race, at Winchester back on September 6th when he tied a career high finish with a fourth. In addition to his pavement events, he has also made select starts behind the wheel of his dirt Late Model with appearances at Twin-Cities Raceway Park (IN) as well as Ponderosa Speedway (KY). In five total starts, he scored three top five finishes including a second place run at Twin-Cities back on August 22nd.
