Matt Kocourek Has High Hopes for ARCA Midwest Tour Rookie of the Year

by Fay Hendricks
Mar 25, 2014 – Matt Kocourek chose to enter the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment rookie field this year after a lengthy race history. Kocourek stated, “I looked into the eligibility requirements for the ROY and we met everything, so it made it all that more enticing to run the whole season. The ARCAMT has a great ROY championship package which really separated it from other series around the country. I look forward to getting the season started!”

Kocourek has been racing something most of his life. Beginning in motocross bikes, Kocourek moved on to jet skis before entering short track racing in a Legend car in the late 1990’s. In 2000 Kocourek bought a used late model and was hooked. Two years later Kocourek earned the Lake Geneva Raceway championship. Lake Geneva was the only track Kocourek raced full time, winning the Fall Classic in 2005. Kocourek also made the field for the Slinger Nationals in 2005 on his first attempt, not an easy feat.

Kocourek could not make the move to the ARCA Midwest Tour without support, claiming, “We sat down this winter, and with the support of the USCCA, G & F Excavating and our other sponsors, have decided to run for the 2014 ARCA Championship. I haven’t run a full season in any series or track since Lake Geneva and thought it was time to take on a new challenge.” Kocourek had high hopes for 2014, claiming, “Our goal this year is to finish every race, win the ROY and finish top five in points for the 2014 ARCAMT Championship, but no matter what . . . we will have fun!”

Competing in his familiar number 43, Kocourek’s black Ford Fusion proudly displays his supporters. Kocourek stated, “We have some great sponsors that make this possible. Our primary sponsor is the USCCA (United States Concealed Carry Association). We also have G & F Excavating, Five Star Racecar Bodies, All Star Performance, Perfection Auto body, B & B Racing Engines, Penski Shocks, Quarter Master and Lefthander Chassis.”
