Salem, IN (August 15, 2021) – Morristown, Indiana’s Jeff Marcum continued his dominant season at Anderson Speedway but had to hold off Billy Hutson at the finish of Saturday night’s Tom Wood Honda 100, the longest race of the season for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS.
Marcum took the lead from J.P. Crabtree on the fifth circuit and opened a comfortable lead with Hutson moving into the second spot on lap 21.
Things heated up in the closing stages of the race as Marcum closed in on the cars of J. P. Crabtree and Buddy Davis battling for position at the tale of the lead lap. That allowed Hutson to pull up to the rear bumper of Marcum, but the leader was able to get inside of Davis and Crabtree to make the pass and secure his fourth late model win of 2021 at Anderson and his series leading second win of the season. For his pass of the tail of the lead lap cars to secure his second series win of the season, Marcum picked up the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award and the $2,000 first place payoff!
“It got interesting at the end,” Marcum said. “I knew Billy (Hutson) had a fast car and would close at the end.
The crew gave me a really good car again.”
Hutson, the defending series Champion, finished .3-seconds behind Marcum in second, securing the series Regular Season Championship heading into the 2021 Chase for the Championship. Hutson said his car was just a little off and said Marcum is always the driver to beat at Anderson.
“I could see the cars battling for position,” he said. “I was hoping there would be a late caution to see if I could challenge for the lead, but I just couldn’t get there. Jeff is always the guy to beat here at Anderson, he’s won a bunch of races on this track!”
Leading series rookie Kyle Worley would come from his eighth place starting position to finish in third place and earned the KRJ Race Products Sweet Move of the Race Award. Crabtree would finish in fourth place and Davis would finish in fifth place.
The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman next event will be the first race of its 2021 Chase for the Championship on September 18 at Anderson Speedway. Information on all the CRA Series is available at www.cra-racing.com.
