Salem, IN (May 8, 2017) – Sometimes it takes a little luck to get a win and Josh Poore had good luck twice this past weekend in getting his first Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS win of the season, Sunday evening at Anderson Speedway. Poore thought he would miss the event because of a planned vacation when it was postponed because of a rainy forecast until Saturday, May 6th from its original April 29th date. Then Saturday’s rescheduled event was postponed until Sunday, again because of weather, which gave Poore the opportunity to race.
Brett Hudson took full advantage of his pole starting position after Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Andrew Cook drew a six for the inverted start. After a couple of yellows prior to a lap being scored, Hudson grabbed the early lead and eventually drove away from the field to have a half track advantage as the laps began to wind down, while Josh Poore had worked his way from his fifth place starting position to a distance second.
A late yellow as a result of a spinning car gave new life to Poore as Hudson did not have the same handling car on the last restart. Hudson grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag, but could not hold off Poore as Hudson’s car shot up the track in turn three, allowing Poore to dive under Hudson and pull away with the lead on lap 69 and the eventual win in the 75 lap race.
“Wow I got really lucky with this race,” remarked Poore in victory lane. “I didn’t even think I was going to be able to race, then the weather helped me out, then the late caution that gave me a chance to race with Brett. It was obvious Brett had the fastest car, something happened to it on that long green run, I would have never had a chance if it wasn’t for that caution coming out!”
A very dejected Hudson had to settle for second place, his second straight race with that finish.
“Man we had an awesome car that had the field covered,” commented Hudson. “I started feeling a vibration about lap 50 and I could see I had a half lap on Josh, I was just hoping to get to the end, but that caution came out and the car just wasn’t the same, it shot up the track and opened the door for Josh to get by me.”
Mason Keller and Andrew Teepe and a tight battle for the third place position over the last six laps before Keller was able to get the position. Teepe would finish in fourth. Josh Brading would finish in fifth, his best ever finish with CRA. Jacob McElfresh and Jordan Hahn were the only other two cars to finish on the lead lap in sixth and seventh.
Hudson was the only series driver to receive a Road to Bristol guaranteed start for the Short Track U. S. Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway in the three races leading up to that event.
The next event for the Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks will be the Short Track U.S. Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway on May 19-21. For more information on all the CRA series go to www.cra-racing.com.
