Salem, IN. (September 6, 2017) – The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance will return to action Saturday at the racy Owosso Speedway, located in Owosso, Michigan. Saturday’s event will be the fifth ever event for the series at Owosso Speedway, past winners include Erik Jones in 2011, Brian Campbell in 2012, Chad Finley in 2014, and last year’s winner Travis Eddy.
Saturday’s Big O Classic 100 Presented by JEGS.com will be the ninth race of the season for the crate late model series sanctioned by Champion Racing Association. Cole Williams won the series season opener on May 21st at Bristol Motor Speedway and the “Masters of the Pro’s” 144 at Lebanon I-44 Speedway on July 3rd. Jack Smith won the series second event of the season on June 17th at Salem Speedway. Michigan veteran racer Brian Campbell won on July 15th at Berlin Raceway. Local driver Kyle Hayden got his first ever CRA win at Auto City Speedway on August 5th.
14 year old series Rookie Carson Hocevar has now won a series leading three events so far this season, getting wins at Kil-Kare Raceway on July 9th, and has won the last two series events on August 18th at Birch Run Speedway and last Sunday at Winchester Speedway. With his win on Sunday, the first race of the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Championship Chase, Hocevar is now locked into the Championship Chase final event to race for the series season Championship on Friday, October 6th at Winchester Speedway. Saturday’s event will be the second of two events left for the Chase teams to also lock themselves into the final event. The third event will be at Lucas Oil Raceway on September 24th.
Jack Dossey III comes into Saturday’s event second in Championship Chase points to Hocevar, he is two points ahead of third place Michael Clancy Jr. Thomas Woodin is currently in fourth place, two points behind Clancy Jr. Thomas Hufferd is in fifth place, four points behind Woodin. Rookie Hope Hornish is in sixth place, she is four points behind Hufferd. Austin Kunert is in seventh, he is four points behind Hornish. Jack Smith is in eighth, he is two points behind Kunert. All eight of the Championship Chase drivers are entered for Saturday’s event.
Other top CRA drivers entered include Trever McCoy, David Carter, Anthony Danta, Tyler Hufford, Jerry Andrews, Florida racer Steve Dorer, Berlin Raceway racer Ben Welch, 14 year old racers Evan Shotko and Hayden Sprague, Tommy Cook and Tyler Rycenga who is entered to make his series and CRA debut on Saturday.
Several local drivers, who are also part-time CRA competitors, are entered including last year’s winner Travis Eddy, 2017 Auto City Speedway winner Kyle Hayden, 2014 Auto City Speedway winner Eric Lee, Kyle Crump, who finished a series high of second at Auto City, Jay Sommers, Owosso multi time Pure Stock feature winner Lonnie Saumier, and former series competitor Amber Slagle, who is entered to make her 2017 series debut Saturday night.
Pits open on Saturday at 12noon. The first of two practice sessions for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour will begin at 2:30pm. Fury Race Cars Qualifying will take place starting at 6:15pm. The racing program will begin at 7pm. There will be an on track autograph session with all the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour drivers prior to the running of the Big O Classic 100 Presented by JEGS.com. Also racing on Saturday will be the Owosso Pure Stocks and Sportsman, plus MCR Dwarf Cars.
