Second race of Lucas Oil Raceway Stock Car Series Presented by Visit Hendricks County
Brownsburg, Indiana (Friday, May 8, 2015): The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Powered by JEGS competed in the third overall race of the 2015 racing season and second of the year at Lucas Oil Raceway. The immaculate Circle City speed plant located west of Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana served as hosts of the extended distance LOR 125 which was also the second round of the LOR Stock Car Series Presented by Visit Hendricks County
The immaculate (0.686) mile semi-banked paved oval would see New Castle, Indiana veteran, Jason Atkinson take the lead away from Round #1 winner, Shawn Amor on lap 58 and from there, the driver of the #7 Oak Motors / Safe Towing / Ford fought off consistent challenges from the early race leader before pulling away to score his first win of the 2015 racing season. For the 38-year-old all-time wins leader in CRA Late Model Sportsman Series history, it was his 15th career victory. He also scored the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award for his winning pass on Amor.
Amor finished second in his #28 Whitman’s Auto Sales Chevrolet as the Plymouth, Indiana driver led twice for a total of 54 laps. The 36-year-old didn’t leave the Circle City empty-handed as he did leave with the Racing Electronics Second to None Award. Rounding out the podium finishers would be Scotty Tomasik in his #8 Indiana Drywall Company / Chevrolet. The 27-year-old Indianapolis native collected the Allstar Performance / Scorpion Racing Products Fast Qualifier Award earlier in the evening.
Defending Series Champion, Greg Van Alst finished fourth in his #35 Top Choice Fence & Deck / Ford as the 33-year-old started on the pole for the 125-lap event. Rounding out the top five was 20-year-old J.P. Crabtree in his #83 Jim’s Automotive / Chevrolet. The 20-year-old from Muncie, Indiana started 11th in the event within the 23-car field and advanced into the top five late in the race.
Finishing sixth would be 17-year-old Jared Thomas as 18-year-old Trey Craig was shown seventh in the final rundown. Rookie contender, Matthew Parsons garnered an eighth place effort over Ben Tunney, a Figure 8s veteran in his CRA Late Model Sportsman Series debut picked up the Racing Electronics Hard-Charger Award for his 18th to ninth place run. 14-year-old rookie, Hunter Jack completed the top 10
Tomasik’s fast time in Allstar Performance/Scorpion Racing Products Qualifying was a 23.578. The Track Record for the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series at LOR was set just two weeks before on April 24th when Amor became the first driver in CRA LMS history to break into the 22-second bracket at LOR. Amor’s new record is a 22.879 which measures out to 107.942mph.
The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Powered by JEGS will take an extended break before returning to action on Saturday, June 13th with a return visit to the track that has hosted the series the most in their 11-year history: Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana. The Anderson 75 is set for the fast 1/4 (0.250) mile high-banked paved oval as the series has visited Anderson on 28 occasions.
Jason Atkinson leads the way with the most victories at the Central Indiana speed plant with six career wins. Two-Time Series Champion (2011 & 2006) Keith Sterkowitz is next on the list with four total victories. Another Two-Time Series Champion, (2010 & 2009) Charlie Hanna and the late Al Cook Jr., both have two wins each and so do Chris Hacker and Trey Craig.
2014 Rookie of the Year, 16-year-old Jack Dossey III picked up the most recent win on May 2nd while Defending Series Champion, Greg Van Alst as well as 2008 Series Champion, Tony Dager both have single victories each while Quinnton Bear, Danny Trent, Jeff Marcum, Ronnie Rose, Brett Robinson, Steve Stacy and Steve Blair also have one trip to victory lane each on their resume.
