Salem, IN (September 19, 2021) – After not winning at Anderson Speedway until this year Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Billy Hutson scored his second win of the year Saturday night at Anderson Speedway in the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS Byrider 75. Earlier this year Hutson won the PGG 100 with the Anderson Speedway MEP Late Models, Saturday was his first win at Anderson with CRA and his second win with the series in 2021.
Tony Dager led the first three circuits before being passed by Cassten Everidge with Hutson, the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier, running third followed by track champion and two time 2021 series winner at Anderson Jeff Marcum.
The race’s only caution flag waved on lap 18 for a spin by Kent Carson and on the restart, Hutson took the lead with Marcum moving into the second spot five laps later. Marcum’s night ended on lap 38 with an oil leak, a rare mechanical woe for the team.
Hutson went on to win over Everidge, Dylan Stovall, Caleb Reschar and Kyle Worley.
“The team made all the right adjustments,” Hutson said in the Riley & Son Victory Lane. “The car was really set up well.
“The racing gods do strange things. The last time we were here I had a mechanical problem and tonight it happened to Jeff (Marcum). I’m sorry we didn’t get to race to the finish.”
For his pass to get the win Hutson was awarded the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award. Hutson was the highest finisher of the series Chase for the Championship drivers and was already locked into the final four drivers who will race for the series Championship at Winchester Speedway on October 16th. Hutson was the series 2007 and 2020 Champion.
Everidge was pleased with the second-place finish, his best ever at Anderson Speedway.
“I wasn’t sure we would make it,” Everidge remarked. “Our primary car had an engine problem at the shop and we only started working on this car this morning. We were off a little on the set-up, but a second is a good showing.”
Stovall was making only his second career start at Anderson and second with the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman.
“Last year I was here, and a driver mistake cost us a fifth-place finish,” he said. “I was here to redeem myself.”
With his fourth-place finish, Reschar picked up the KRJ Race Products Sweet Move of the Race Award.
