Hunter Wright and the Day Racing Products / 31-W Insulation team with B H Holmes Construction Co. and Zep will return to action next weekend, Saturday, May 30.
The JEGS / CRA All-Stars Tour Presented By Chevrolet Performance kicks off in tandem with the ARCA/CRA Super Series at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, MO for the Show Me State Showdown where Wright will wheel the No. 29 Pro Late Model for 100-laps.
Earlier scheduled for Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, the event was moved to I-44 in a decision by Track Enterprises who holds the new lease for the Fairgrounds’ 5/8-mile. The city’s phased reopening of sports and entertainment venues placed an indefinite hold on the Music City’s first green flag event.
Wright says he’s looking forward to being back in the driver’s seat.
“I’m excited for next weekend. I’m even more excited to get back to the track and be back in the seat. Being at a new venue just makes it that much better as we continue to grow our late model program.”
This will be Wright’s first appearance at the 3/8-mile, and says he feels good about his advantage on this size track, although realizing it’s against some of the toughest competition in the short track universe.
“There’s definitely going to be some tough competition. Show me one champion and I’ll show you five more. But, I-44 looks like a fun track. It’s a little shorter than the ones we’ve been running lately and that’s more my style. So, hopefully, that will help us out some.”
The 19-year-old’s last race was at Montgomery’s Alabama 200 in early March where he finished 15th. Besides running an iRacing event or two, he has been steady working his craft as a machinist and fabricator at his full-time job with Day Racing Products near Nashville.
“I love what I do every day, and I’m super excited and grateful for the opportunity to be going out to another new race track we’ve never seen with Wayne Day and Justin Ashburn. I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity everyone involved has given me and our crew and am excited to be back to racing. Hopefully we can make them proud and make it worth it for everyone who has a hand in this thing.”
The teams will begin rolling into I-44 Speedway next Friday for practice with feature events set for 6:30 p.m. CST on Saturday. Gates will open at noon and a limited amount of tickets are still available.
