Special from Speed51.com – Carson Hocevar’s hot streak continued with his fourth ARCA/CRA Super Series win of the season Saturday night at Toledo Speedway in the Glass City 200. It marked his second in a row with the series and third straight overall in a Super Late Model, having won the Money in the Bank 150 last weekend at Berlin Raceway.

Once again, it was a dominating performance for the Portage, Michigan driver just two days removed from a NASCAR Truck Series start at Bristol Motor Speedway. In a race that just saw one early yellow, Hocevar took the lead from Hunter Jack around the lap 40 mark and was on cruise control the rest of the way.
“Overall, when you win a race in that dominant fashion, it’s definitely not a bad day. It’s a testament to the work these guys are doing at the shop,” Hocevar told Speed51. “Zach Dunson (crew chief) has made this program an A-caliber program that’s really hard to beat. It makes my job a lot easier behind the wheel.”
After a disappointing season last year in the short track ranks, Hocevar has responded in 2020 by scoring five wins after joining a team spearheaded by Zach Dunson and Johnny VanDoorn. With a trio of wins to his credit just in the month of September, he heads into “Big Race Season” as one of the hottest drivers in all of Super Late Model racing.
“I think we’ve hit on something this year and it’s really showing right now with each and every time we go to the racetrack. Racing’s real humbling, I felt the lows last year. I haven’t seen this racetrack all year so to come in and show speed, it’s a testament to your program. Momentum and confidence is hard to beat so hopefully we can ride this out to the end of the year.”
After starting to fall early in the event, Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Sammy Smith recovered for a strong second-place run in his first trip to Toledo. It marked yet another second-place run for the Iowa teenager, who has yet to score a win since the World Series of Asphalt.
“We were close, we just needed more at the beginning. We were very loose, like wrecking loose and we fell back to fifth.” Smith said. “That long green flag run, we were still loose but we were managing it. We fought back to second but it wasn’t enough.
“I think this is the fifth second-place finish we’ve had this year. It’s frustrating but at least we’re competitive and we’re there. We just have to capitalize and close the deals out.”
Fast qualifier Cayden Lapcevich scored a third-place effort in a night that saw him pull double-duty. Hunter Jack and Cody Coughlin rounded out the top-five.
