Final Four Owners and Drivers set to Race for the Series Championship at Winchester
Salem, IN (September 25, 2017) – Terry Fisher Jr. made it a complete sweep of the 2017 Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS events at Lucas Oil Raceway by winning Sunday’s Elwood Antique Mall and Flea Market 40 Presented by Lyons Truck and Trailer, which was part of the 2017 CRA Fall Brawl Presented by EDCO Welding. It was Fisher Jr.’s third straight win in the event, collecting his third event signature trophy that includes a pair of boxing gloves.
“This is really cool to win this event three straight years,” remarked Fisher Jr. in victory lane. “It wasn’t easy, I saw Amor coming, and I knew he was fast and would race me hard, but I just kept running the high line and if he was going to pass me, he was going to have to do it on the bottom. I have to thank my crew and owner Scott Coe, without them, I wouldn’t have won this event again!”
Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Shawn Amor drew a five for the events inverted start, putting T.J. Flynn on the pole. Flynn and outside pole sitter KC Spillers battled for the lead at the drop of the green flag, but it was outside row two starter Terry Fisher Jr. who would have the lead by the time the field reached the finish line at the end of the first lap.
Amor also began to march to the front, but got loose and spun in turn three and four while trying to pass Spillers and brought out the race’s first yellow. Amor pitted for some adjustments and restarted at the tail of the field.
Fisher Jr. grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag, but the track went yellow again for an incident involving Keith Lyons, whose car made hard impact with the backstretch retaining wall. Lyons was okay, but his car was done for the day.
Again Fisher took the lead at the drop of the green flag on the lap eight restart. Amor was already making his way through the back of the field to track down Fisher Jr. Amor made his way to Fisher Jr.’s back bumper, and tried to make the pass on the low side with no luck for several laps. Fisher Jr. kept his car on the high side, only leaving the bottom of the track open for Amor to try and pass. Amor tried several times, but with Fisher Jr. making no mistakes and lap traffic making passing difficult on the bottom, Fisher Jr. was able to hold off Amor and get the win, his third series win of the season.
Fisher Jr. collected $1,500 for the win, including a $500 bonus from Lyons Truck & Trailer. By winning both series Lucas Oil Raceway events this season, Fisher Jr. was the Lyons Truck & Trailer LOR Challenge winner, gaining another $500 cash bonus.
Amor would finish in second, locking in his car Owner, D & R Motorsports, into the Owners Championship Chase Final Four that will race for the series Owners Championship on October 7th at Winchester Speedway.
2007 Series Champion Billy Hutson finished in third place. Leading series Rookie Jason Neal finished in fourth place after starting eighth, in a backup car after his primary car lost an engine in practice on Saturday. With his fourth place finish Neal locked himself into the Owners and Drivers Championship Chase Final Four. Neal also picked up the Spillers Towing Hardcharger Award and its $100 cash bonus. Flynn would round out the top five.
Besides D & R Motorsports and Neal, Tony Brutti and RJ Norton Jr. will be the other two series Championship Chase Owners that will race for the series 2017 Owners Championship on Saturday, October 7th at Winchester Speedway, as part of the 46th Annual Winchester 400 Weekend. The highest finisher in that event will be the 2017 series Owners Champion, in the series first year using the Championship Chase format. Chase Owners KC Spillers and Neal McClelland did not make the final four.
The Final Four Championship Chase Drivers that will race for the series 2017 Drivers Championship at Winchester includes Neal, Brutti, Norton Jr. and Spillers. McClelland was the only Chase Driver to not make the final four.
