CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series Event Number Two at Kentucky Motor Speedway Sunday

Salem, IN (May 26, 2016) – The CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS will be back in action this Sunday at Kentucky Motor Speedway located in Whitesville, KY, for the second event of the CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series, which includes three 200 lap, $3000 to win events. Anderson, Indiana’s Josh Poore got the win in the first event of the Triple Crown on April 23rd at Shadybowl Speedway. The third and final event in the Triple Crown will be at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, June 25th.

 

In addition to the $3000 to win for each event, there will be a Points Champion from the three events who will receive a $1000 bonus. Second in points will receive a $500 bonus, then there will be another $500 bonus from a random draw from the cars that attended all three events. Crumrine Gold & Silversmiths will once again award the winners of each event in the CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series and the 2016 CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series Champion with a specially designed buckle.

 

Phantom Racing Gear, the official Apparel Company of CRA, will again have 2016 CRA Street Stock Triple Crown Series T-Shirts on sale this Sunday, which will be available for purchase in the pits and behind the main grandstands.

 

Topping the list of entries to date for Sunday’s Kentucky 200 is defending event winner Mason Keller, who held off all challengers in claiming his first ever CRA Street Stock and Triple Crown win. Poore is also entered as he looks to claim this year’s CRA Triple Crown Title. Poore got his second series win of the season at the series last event at Anderson Speedway on May 14th. Two time defending CRA Triple Crown Champion Jason Atkinson is also entered, Atkinson finished second to Poore at Shadybowl in his only series appearance so far in 2016. Poore and Atkinson are first and second in CRA Triple Crown points after Shadybowl.

 

Other CRA regulars entered include current CRA Championship point’s leader James Kirby III, who got a second place finish in the series last event at Anderson. Kirby’s father, Jimmy Kirby, the 2012 series Champion is also entered. Veteran CRA competitor Phil Jenkins is also entered along with series regulars Andrew Teepe, Ricky Young, Iowa racer Mike Todd and series rookie competitors Justin Oberlin, Zach Henderson and Nathan Greene.

 

The state of Kentucky will be well represented on Sunday led by 2014 Kentucky 200 winner Brett Hudson, from Owensboro. Louisville natives Shawn Smith, the 2014 Salem Speedway Street Stock Champion and Chuck Barnes Jr., the 2004 ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion and a winner with the CRA Street Stocks in 2015, are entered. Brooks veteran racer Chris Harmon is entered, he is a former Louisville Speedway Figure 8 and Sportsman Champion.  Campellsburg racer Larry Lathan is entered, he is a former full-time competitor with the CRA Street Stocks. Owensboro’s Blake Hillard, winner of the 2015 Halloween 200 at Salem Speedway and third place in last year’s Kentucky 200, is entered. Whitesville’s Logan Boarman and Philpot’s Derrick Bartlett are also entered.

 

Justin Pirtle from Palymra, Indiana is entered to make his CRA debut on Sunday, he is a regular competitor at Salem Speedway.

 

Kentucky Motor Speedway has a very storied past and has been the starting point for several NASCAR drivers and crew members, including three time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Darrell Waltrip and his brother Michael, along with the Green brothers, David, Jeff and Mark and Jeremy Mayfield.

 

There is an open practice on Saturday from 2 to 5pm (Central Time). Pit gates open on Sunday at 11am. Practice is set to begin at 2pm with qualifying for the CRA Street Stocks at 5pm. The race program will begin at 6pm and will include the Kentucky 200 for the CRA Street Stocks. Also in action will be the Kentucky Motor Speedway Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, Street Stocks and Legends. Monday, May 30th is the rain date if needed.
