CRA Street Stock Five Crown Series Continues Sunday at Kentucky Motor Speedway

Salem, IN (July 19, 2018) – The Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS will be back in action this Sunday at Kentucky Motor Speedway located in Whitesville, KY. Sunday’s Bobby’s Tire and Mechanical 200 will be the third event of the 2018 CRA Street Stock Five Crown Series, that will feature five 200 lap, $3000 minimum to win events. The event was originally scheduled for last Sunday, but was postponed because of weather.

 

The first Five Crown event was April 21st, at Shadybowl Speedway were Owensboro, Kentucky’s Brett Hudson took the dominating win. The second was at Anderson Speedway on June 16th were Josh Poore got the win. The other two events in the Five Crown will be at Winchester Speedway on Sunday, August 5th with an increased purse and bonuses. The Five Crown Championship event will now be at Mt. Lawn Speedway on Saturday, August 25th after its original May 6th scheduled event was postponed by rain.

 

In addition to the $3000 minimum to win for each event, there will be a Points Champion from the five events who will receive a $1000 bonus. Second in points will receive a $600 bonus, third place a $400 bonus, then there will be two $250 bonuses from a random draw from the cars that attended all five events. Each of the Five Crown Series events except Winchester will be 4 tire races, all five will have a break at lap 100 to add fuel and make adjustments. Each Five Crown event winner and the overall Champion will receive a specially designed buckle from Crumrine Buckle Manufacturing.

 

Jacob McElfresh leads the Five Crown points after the first two events. Brian Hopkins is in second place, he is nine points behind McElfresh. Brett Hudson is in third place, after having a devastating crash in the Anderson Speedway event, he is only two points behind Hopkins. James Kirby III and Anderson winner Poore are tied for fourth place, they are 10 points behind Hudson.

 

Sunday’s event will be the sixth point’s event of the season for the CRA Street Stocks. Other winners besides Hudson and Poore in the Five Crown events to date include Chuck Barnes Jr., who won his second straight EDCO 50 at the Short Track U.S. Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway on May 20th, Owensboro’s own Blake Hillard who won the series event on June 3rd at Salem Speedway and Jake Hinton who got his first ever CRA win at the series last event on June 30th at Baer Field Motorsports Park. Hudson is locked into the series Championship Chase if he competes in at least 70% of the series events leading up to the season ending four Chase events.

 

J.J. Schafer and Nathan Greene are tied for the series Championship points lead heading into Sunday’s event. McElfresh is in third place, he is only two points behind Schafer and Greene. Justin Oberlin is in fourth place, he is 30 points behind McElfresh. Hudson is now in fifth place, he is 12 points behind Oberlin.

 

Pit Gates open on Sunday at 1pm. Practice is set to begin at 3:00pm for the CRA Street Stocks. Qualifying is set to begin at 4:30pm. The race program will begin at 6pm and will include the Bobby’s Tire and Mechanical 200 for the Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks. Also in action will be the KMS Mini Stocks, Street Stocks and Scrappers.

 

Kentucky Motor Speedway has a very storied past and has been the starting point for several NASCAR drivers and crew members, including three time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Darrell Waltrip and his brother Michael, along with the Green brothers, David, Jeff and Mark and Jeremy Mayfield.
