CRA Late Model Sportsman Championship to be Decided Saturday at Winchester Speedway

Salem, IN (October 6, 2020) – The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS will conclude its 15th season of competition this Saturday on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway. Saturday’s 50 lap Season Championship event will be part of the racing action with the big 49th Annual Winchester 400 Presented by JEGS, one of the premier stock car events in the Midwest. 

After having several events postponed or canceled because of the COVID 19 pandemic, the series began its 2020 season on June 6th at Anderson Speedway, which was won by veteran Tommy Cook over a tough field of 26 cars. Multi-time Anderson Speedway Late Model Champion Jeff Marcum got the win in the series 100 lap special event on July 25th at Anderson Speedway. Austin Coe picked up his first series win of the season in the Norton Transport Raintree 100, at Mt. Lawn Speedway on August 16th. 

Brandon Varney got his first ever series win in the series event at Anderson Speedway on August 22nd. Coe went back to victory lane in the series event at Mt. Lawn Speedway on September 6th. Series leading Rookie Tanner Jack picked up his first ever series win in the CRA Fall Brawl at Lucas Oil Raceway on September 20th. Varney picked up his second series win of the season in the series last event at Anderson Speedway on September 26th.

2020 was the fourth season CRA has used the Chase for the Championship format to crown their Champions in four of its series. Six series drivers were locked into the final four Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Chase for the Championship events. 

Leading series rookie Tanner Jack was automatically locked into the final four drivers as the Regular Season Points Champion and with his win in the Lucas Oil Raceway Chase event. Coe also got locked in with his win in the Mt. Lawn Speedway Chase event. 2007 series Champion Billy Hutson and Cassten Everidge were the final two drivers locked in to compete for the Championship, by Chase event points. Cory Adams and Kent Carson were eliminated from the Chase after the last Anderson event. The driver finishing the highest of the final four Chase drivers in Saturday’s 50 lap Season Championship event will be crowned the 2020 series Champion.

Things begin for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman with the 49th Annual Winchester 400 Presented by JEGS with an optional open practice on Thursday, October 8th. Pits open at 10am, open practice for all Winchester 400 divisions will go from 12noon until 5pm.

There will also be a practice session on Friday, October 9th for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman at 3pm.    

Pits open on Saturday, October 10th at 8am, rotating practice for all divisions will begin at 10am. Second round practice and Group Qualifying for the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series will begin at 1:15pm. The race program will begin at 4pm on Saturday and will include the 50 lap Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series Season Championship event. Also, racing that night will be the Modifieds in the 50 lap Run for the Gun and the Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks in there 50 lap Season Championship event.
