CRA Late Model Sportsman Championship Chase Begins Saturday at Baer Field

Salem, IN (August 17, 2017) – The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS will be back in action this Saturday at Baer Field Motorsports Park, located just south of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Saturday’s event will begin the first ever Championship Chase for the series as it looks to crown its 2017 Champion. In the next three series events eight teams are eligible to compete against each other to determine who the final four will be that will race to decide the series 2017 Champion at Winchester Speedway on October 7th.

 

Saturday’s event will be the series 14th all-time event at Baer Field Motorsports Park. Terry Fisher Jr. won the series first ever event at Baer Field in 2006. Tony Dager and Steve Minich Jr. have each won three series events at Baer Field. Chad Richardson has won two series events at Baer Field. Single event winners include the late Al Cook Jr., Billy Hutson, Zach Hulvey and Jason Atkinson, who won the series last event at Baer Field in 2013.

 

Saturday’s race will be the series fifth event of the season. Fisher Jr. got the win in the series season opener at Lucas Oil Raceway, as part of the 8th Annual Cabin Fever Championships in April. Veteran Indianapolis racer R.J. Norton Jr. got the win in the series second event on May 13th at Anderson Speedway, it was his first ever CRA win. Tony Brutti got the win at the series event on July 1st at Anderson Speedway, also his first ever CRA win. Shawn Amor went to victory lane in the series last event on Sunday at Mt. Lawn Speedway for D & R Motorsports.

 

Norton Jr. is the Championship point’s leader heading into Saturday night’s event. Rookie Jason Neal is in second place, he is 14 points behind Norton Jr. Former series Champion KC Spillers is in third place, he is seven points behind Neal. Rookie Neal McClellan is in fourth place, he is 46 points behind Spillers. Brutti is in fifth place and has only competed in three events to date, he is 24 points behind McClellan.

 

Besides, Norton Jr., Neal, Spillers, McClellan , and Brutti the other three series Team Owners in Chase positions with a win or owner points include the #84 D & R Motorsports, #3 Kent Carson, #811 Thomas Hufferd. Drivers in Driver Point Chase positions heading into Saturday besides, Norton Jr., Neal, Spillers, McClellan , and Brutti include Kent Carson and Thomas Hufferd.

 

Several local Late Model Sportsman teams that race at Baer Field Motorsports Park are expected to compete against the CRA regulars Saturday night for bragging rights!

 

Spillers Towing has put up some extra purse bonus money for Saturday night’s event. Spiller Towing will pay out a $100 bonus to the second, third, fourth and fifth place finishers Saturday night.

 

There is an open practice Friday at Baer Field Motorsports Park from 5 to 8pm. Pit Gates open on Saturday at 1:30pm. The first of two practice sessions is set to begin at 3pm for the CRA Late Model Sportsman. Qualifying is set to begin at 6pm. The race program will begin at 7:05pm and will include a 50 lap feature on the 1/2 mile track for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS. Also racing Saturday night will be the Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS, as well as the Baer Field Front Wheel drives, Open Wheel Modifieds and Mini Stocks.
