Salem, IN (August 30, 2018) – The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS will begin its Chase for the Championship this Monday on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway as part of the Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival, one of the biggest stock car events held each year in Central Indiana. The weekend will feature exciting racing action from the ARCA/CRA Super Series, JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance, ICAR Modifieds, Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman, Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks, Vores Touring Compacts and Thunder Roadsters. Camping will be available all weekend and there will also be the annual Sunday night party in the pavilion featuring live music.
The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman kicked off their 2018 season at Mt. Lawn Speedway, on May 27th were Danny Trent went to victory lane. The series second event was contested on Saturday, June 23rd at Baer Field Motorsports Park were Tommy Cook got the win. The third event was the first Triple Crown event at Mt. Lawn Speedway on July 1st were Jeff Marcum got the win. Marcum made it two in a row with the win in the second Triple Crown race Anderson Speedway on July 14th. Marcum made it three series wins in a row with the win at Anderson Speedway on July 28th. Hunter Jack got the win in the final Triple Crown Series event at Baer Field Motorsports Park on August 18th.
The series will begin its Chase for the Championship on Monday, 2018 will be the second season the series has used this playoff style format to crown its Champion. The second event of the Chase will be at Anderson Speedway on September 15th, the third event will be at Lucas Oil Raceway on September 30th, with the final Championship event on Saturday, October 13th on Winchester 400 Weekend.
The drivers earning the right to compete over the next three point events to be in the final four drivers to compete for the series Championship on Winchester 400 weekend include Marcum, with his victories, plus series rookie Chris Shannon, Tony Brutti, series rookie Zachary Tinkle, 2007 series Champion Billy Hutson, Neil McClelland, Kent Carson and Brandon Varney. If any of those drivers do not race in Monday’s event, there are three other drivers that could still be in the Chase including in order Ronnie Rose, Shawn Bonar and Tony Brunke if they attend Monday’s event.
There will be an open practice for all divisions on Saturday, pits open at 10am, and rotating practice will go from 1pm until 5pm. There will be security at the track all weekend so teams can leave their equipment in the track. Pits open on Sunday at 8am, practice will begin at 10am with qualifying starting at 3pm. Racing action on Sunday will begin at 5pm and will include heat races for the ICAR Modifieds, CRA Late Model Sportsman, CRA Street Stocks, Thunder Roadsters and the Vores Touring Compacts. The Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour will be the first feature of the night and will be followed by a 20 lap feature for the Vores Touring Compacts. The traditional Sunday night party will begin after the racing is completed.
Pits open on Monday at 10am. The first of six feature events will start at 1pm with the 20 lap Thunder Roadsters feature, then the 40 lap CRA Late Model Sportsman feature, then the 100 lap ARCA/CRA Super Series feature, then the 40 lap ICAR Modifieds feature, then the 30 lap Vores Touring Compacts feature, with the 40 lap CRA Street Stocks feature ending the day.
