Team JEGS Story – Cody Coughlin is looking to continue his hot-streak of Late Model racing. The Joe Gibbs Racing Development driver has finished in the top five in each of his last three starts, including two victories in Super Late Model competition. This Saturday (May 21) he will go for his third-straight victory Super Late Model win when he and the JEGS No. 1 team tackle Baer Field Motorsports Park in Fort Wayne, IN with the running of the Summit City 100 with the ARCA / CRA Super Series.
The last time Coughlin visited the Hoosier State he took a trip to victory lane at Anderson Speedway, a track he’d never won at before. Now he’s looking to try to get a win at a track he’s never even seen before in Baer Field.
“It’s always a challenge to go to a place you’ve never been to before, but our team always finds a way to shine when challenged because they’re the best in the business,” said Coughlin.
The 20-year-old driver is looking to extend his ARCA/CRA Super Series points lead on Saturday night. Another strong run would serve as a great follow-up to his two-straight Super Series victories at Ohio’s Toledo Speedway and Anderson.
“We’ve certainly got momentum on our side it seems,” said Coughlin. “We followed up the two wins with a strong top five in the Pro Late Model at I-44 last week, and I see no reason why we shouldn’t at least be in the top five again this weekend at Baer Field.”
Despite the fact that the Ohio-native has never raced at the half-mile speedway, Coughlin is confident his Team JEGS crew will give him a Toyota Camry that can contend for the win with.
“I know that my crew chief, Jack Smith, will give me another awesome race car,” said Coughlin. “Everywhere we’ve gone since he came on board we’ve had an awesome race car. I know that Kevin (Hamlin, team manager), Scott (Wimmer, spotter) and Dave (Holt, crew member) will work as hard as they can to give me a chance to win. And I also know that I’m extremely blessed to have my parents, Di and John, and my sister Kennedi as they are the most supporting family anybody could ask for.”
Coughlin will hit the track for the first time on Saturday at 2:40 p.m. ET for practice. Qualifying will take place at 5:45 p.m. ET with racing set to follow at 6:30 p.m. ET. Saturday night’s race is scheduled for 100 laps.
