Buckeye State teenager ready for battle in front of family and friends
Corunna, Michigan (Wednesday, May 20, 2015): With the vast majority of the 2015 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance schedule conducted outside of the state of Ohio, 16-year-old Kody Evans knew that his chances at racing close to his Camden, Ohio would be few and far between. With just a single event scheduled within the Buckeye State for the tours fifth anniversary season, Saturday, May 23rd has been a date that Evans and his DuroByte Motorsports Team have been waiting for as a chance to really make their mark on the tour.
The Memorial 100 Presented by JEGS.com will be at the 1/3 (0.333) mile circular shaped paved oval of Columbus Motor Speedway in the Buckeye State capital city of Columbus, Ohio. The Memorial Day Holiday Weekend of racing marks the second point’s race of the 2015 racing season for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. The first point’s event, back on May 3rd at Springport Motor Speedway (MI) would see Evans finish 18th after a vibration within in his machine plagued his efforts. With Springport already behind him, Evans is now focused on the lone race in his home state.
“Really have a good feeling about this weekend, my last time at Columbus was a while ago but I enjoy the challenge of the flat tracks and I know everyone on the crew is ready,” Stated the teenage driver as he readies for the short trip to Columbus, Ohio. “I’m going to do everything I can to get this crew the finish they deserve this weekend. I know we’re ready to contend and hopefully it starts this weekend.” He added as he and his DuroByte team making final preparations for their third race together.
In Evans last race prior to Springport, back on January 25th it was during SpeedFest 2015 at the fast 4/10s (0.400) mile semi-banked paved oval of Watermelon Capital Speedway, located south of Macon and north of the Florida / Georgia state line in Cordele, Georgia. The January race down south was the first outing for Evans and DuroByte. As the team worked together for the first time, Crew Chief, Jimmy D. Smith, the entire team and Evans gelled right away and although the results didn’t show the progress, the team was very happy with the entire weekend.
After racing in Go-Karts since he was four years old, including a championship at just eight years old, Evans made his first start in a full-sized stock car at just 13 years old. In 2013 at 14, Evans ran full-time in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour where he finished sixth in a loaded Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year class. He also grabbed a 10th place finish overall in the points standings which include one top five finish, an impressive fourth at the famed high-banks of Salem Speedway (IN) to go with four top 10s. In 2014 in limited appearances in JEGS/CRA, he collected three top 10s, all seventh place finishes which were at Salem, Winchester Speedway (IN) and Lucas Oil Raceway (IN).
