CRA Street Stock Series concludes 11th season of competition in the Circle City

Brownsburg, Indiana (Sunday, October 18, 2015): The Stealth Trailers CRA Street Stock Series Powered by JEGS 2015 point’s season ended a week ago at Winchester Speedway (IN) during Winchester 400 weekend. There was still one race remaining though for the CRA SSS contingent and it was at Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) on Sunday, October 18th.  The Budweiser King of the Track Championship Sunday served as the LOR Stock Car Series Presented by Visit Hendricks County Championship events for both the CRA Street Stock Series and the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series.

Going into the final race of the 2015 season, 2012 CRA SS Series Champion, Jimmy Kirby led Colby Lane by a mere eight markers in the LOR-only points title chase. Then after the Qualifier Heat Races, that lead changed to six points in favor of Kirby. When the 30-lap Feature, the 15th overall appearance and fifth race of the year for the class at LOR, saw the checkered flag, it would be Colby Lane going to victory lane for the second time at LOR in 2015 and tying for the Points Championship. By virtue of more Feature Wins at LOR, Lane also clinched the 2015 LOR Stock Car Series Championship.

“I really think about anybody could’ve drove this car today. It was that good of a racecar. I don’t know what we figured out here at this racetrack, but it was fast. A cold day like today just brought it to life.” Explained the Knightstown, Indiana driver after climbing from his #44 Second Amendment Supply / Ed Martin Automotive Group / Chevrolet. “We looked at today (In reference to the LOR Stock Car Series Championship) saying we’ll just take it how it is and see what we get and everything just worked out for us. You can’t do it any better then set fast time, win the heat and the Feature. It’s been a really good day and about the best you can do to end the season.” The 24-year-old added. Lane would end the season with four wins overall in 2015 including the last two of the year in the CRA Street Stock Series.

After Lane scored his seventh Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier award of the season, he then drew a three for an inversion which placed Robert Amos Jr., and Kirby on the front row for the 30-lap main. From the drop of the green flag, Lane immediately began his charge and quickly got passed Kirby for second and set his sights on Amos Jr. On only the second lap of the race, Lane drove by the early race leader and would try to check out from Amos Jr., Kirby and the rest of the field in an effort to put as much distance between himself and the rest of the pack as possible.

As Lane continued to pace the field, Kirby was mired in a battle of his own with Amos Jr., and then later, Phil Jenkins. Kirby needed to finish second in the main to seal up the LOR Stock Car Series title, but would eventually lose ground to Amos Jr., while battling Jenkins for the final podium position. By finishing third, Kirby would be tied with Lane, but would lose the first tiebreaker, wins. But he just couldn’t get away from Jenkins until very late in the race. By then, Amos Jr., had a comfortable advantage in second while Lane had long checked out in the caution free race.

In the end, Lane crossed the stripe first and sealed up the 2015 LOR Stock Car Series Presented by Visit Hendricks County Championship for the CRA Street Stocks. In addition to sweeping the program and collecting the Championship, Lane also left the Circle City with several other awards including both the Allstar Performance and Scorpion Racing Products Fast Qualifier awards. In addition, he also picked up the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race award with his winning pass for the lead. He also snagged the T.C.I. Automotive Hard-Charger award for his efforts.

Amos Jr., finished second behind the wheel of his Father, Robert Amos Sr.’s #14 Cumberland Dairy Queen / Chevrolet after leading the first lap. He would relinquish the point to eventual winner, Lane, however, the 22-year-old from Indianapolis, Indiana got away from Kirby and was by himself in second while chasing down Lane. In the end he was never seriously challenged in finishing in the runner-up spot.

Kirby completed the podium finishers in third in his #11 U.S.A. Tires / Chevrolet after a lengthy battle with Jenkins for the position. The Indianapolis, Indiana veteran, the 2012 CRA Street Stock Series Champion, finally got away from Jenkins, but the 42-year-old ran out of time in trying to catch back up to Amos Jr., for second and would finish third, tied for the lead in the final points, but would lose the title on the first tiebreaker, wins.

Kirby’s son, 15-year-old James Kirby III, the 2014 CRA SSS Rookie of the Year, ended his sophomore campaign with a fourth place effort in his #12 U.S.A. Tires / Chevrolet. The Indianapolis, Indiana teenager would fight off J.J. Schafer’s #68 Bremen CarQuest / Chevrolet to finish fourth. Schafer completed the top five as the 23-year-old from Bremen, Indiana as he fought off Jenkins’ #55 Jenkins Auto Repair Professionals / Chevrolet who finished sixth. A.J. Ridner and Johnny Miller completed the field as T.J. Flynn and Matt Clark were unable to answer the call for the main.

In Allstar Performance Qualifying conducted earlier in the afternoon, Lane started his sweep of the afternoon by besting the field with a 26.139 for his third Fast Qualifier award in a row to end the season. Dave Bice will hang onto what is now a five-year-old track record that he set back on October 1st, 2011 when he toured the Circle City oval at a 25.837. In the Qualifier Heat Race held prior to the Feature, Lane also picked up that victory as well.
