Ft. Wayne, IN (March 15, 2019) – Team Coe Motorsports is excited to announce that third generation driver, Austin Coe, will lead the team in pursuit of the 2019 Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS Championship. Team Coe Motorsports, now in its 52nd year of competition, has amassed over 130 wins and 7 championships and knows the way to victory lane quite well.
Growing up Coe was on the baseball field as a promising player, but by age 14, he had picked up the racing bug. He was influenced by his grandfather, “Bullett” Bob Coe, a winning driver at tracks in the Midwest and a frequent competitor in both ARCA and USAC and his father, Scott Coe, a frequent visitor to victory lane in late models and modifieds throughout his career.
“Austin has really progressed as a driver and he’s ready to compete for the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Championship,” stated team owner Scott Coe. “He’s ready to race against different competition and continue his development as a driver. Our team has prepared great cars and we’re eager to get the season started.”
Austin Coe, a frequent CRA competitor, has been a winner since his first year of competition and he is one to watch. Coe won the Street Stock championship in his first year of competition at Baer Field Motorsports Park in 2014 and is the 2018 defending late model class champion now at Baer Field Motorsports Park. Coe has won multiple CRA Street Stock events at Lucas Oil Raceway and had a career best 4th place finish at the Winchester Speedway in his first career start in the CRA Late Model Sportsman series in 2016. Coe set fast time in the CRA Late Model Sportsman event at Winchester Speedway in the fall of 2018 and he has accumulated 18 wins in his young career.
“I am really excited to pursue the CRA Championship in 2019,” remarked Coe. “This will be a big challenge, but our team is prepared to compete for the championship. I have been to most of the tracks so we have good set up information to start with. While it was bittersweet to have set fast time at Winchester last fall it was a major step for me personally because the car was just perfect and it was very easy to drive. It was very disappointing that a mechanical failure ended our day however, it showed that our team is ready to compete at the next level. Lyle Johnson and I rely on each other and we understand how to communicate what the car is doing and what we need to do to make improvements. Lyle and I want to win races and with his experience and the quality of our equipment that is going to be our goal at every event.”
Veteran crew chief, Lyle Johnson, will be leading Team Coe Motorsports in pursuit of the CRA Late Model Sportsman Championship. Now in his 11th year at the helm of Team Coe Motorsports, Johnson is well known in short track racing having worked with competitors such as Sterling Marlin, Jay Sauter, Terry Senneker Sr. and Bob Strait. In Johnson’s motorsports career he has been responsible for over 130 race wins and 14 championship teams. Under Johnson’s guidance through the 2018 season, Team Coe Motorsports has achieved 9 championships and over 90 wins.
“Our team always supports each other and works very hard to be a winner in everything that we do,” remarked Johnson. “Austin has really matured behind the wheel and his skills are getting better every year. His ability to give great feedback has led us to wins. He’s very capable of racing with the best drivers and winning and I’m really excited to see him take this next step in his career.”
