Special from DuroByte Motorsports: (October 4, 2017) – DuroByte Motorsports and 14 year old driver Michael Clancy Jr. will look to achieve their season long quest of the 2017 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Championship, this Friday on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway, as part of the 46th Annual Winchester 400 Weekend. Friday’s Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com 2017 Championship Chase finally, will be the eleventh and final race of the 2017 season for the series, which began its 2017 season on May 21st at Bristol Motor Speedway.
2017 was the first season CRA has used a Championship Chase format to crown their Champions in all four of its series. Eight drivers were locked into the final four ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion Chase events. After three of those events, four drivers were eliminated, giving four drivers a shot to win the 2017 series Championship. The four include Carson Hocevar, Jack Dossey III, Michael Clancy Jr. and Austin Kunert, the driver finishing the highest in Friday’s Winchester 100 will be crowned the 2017 Champion.
Clancy Jr. feels fortunate to be locked into the series Championship event, after disaster struck at the series last event at Lucas Oil Raceway. Clancy Jr. had worked his way into second place, when a racing incident with another car on the lap 60 restart resulted in Clancy Jr. hitting the outside wall causing heavy damage to his car, and eliminating him from the event. Luckily Clancy Jr., who was the events Fury Race Cars Fast Qualifier, had earned enough points in the two previous Chase events to lock him into the Championship Chase final four.
Clancy Jr. looks forward to returning to Winchester Speedway on Friday, the series Labor Day Weekend event at that track was one of his best finishes of the season.
“I can’t believe we are already at the final race of the season,” remarked Clancy Jr. “We are going into this race like any other race, just going for the win. We have been fast and had good runs throughout the season, but now is the time for everything to come together. The top 4 in the Championship Chase are all tough competitors, this should be a very exciting race!”
“”The race at Lucas Oil Raceway was a tough one,” remarked crew chief Jimmy D Smith. “We qualified on the pole and definitely had a fast car. When our race ended early due to a racing incident all we could think about was the Championship Chase. Thankfully we were third in Chase points at the end of the day. Our team is more passionate than ever to both get a win at Winchester Speedway, and to win the Points Championship for the season. We have been meticulously going over the car to be sure we are at the top of our game at Winchester!”
The DuroByte Motorsports and Clancy Jr. had a streak of six straight top ten finishes that helped them get into the final four to race for the Championship. That streak began on July 9th at Kil-Kare Speedway and continued through the Owosso Speedway event on September 9th. Clancy Jr. has had a season best finish of sixth three times.
DuroByte Motorsports will campaign Howe Racing Chassis Ford’s again in 2017 with Ford engines by Ilmor. The team will have sponsorship for the 2017 season from Made In Detroit and Dalton Industries along with Ilmor Engineering and Nalett Trucking.
At 13 years old during the 2016 racing season, Clancy Jr. was the youngest regular competitor with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. Clancy Jr. went on to get three top ten finishes during the season, with a top finish of sixth twice, once on the High Banks of Salem Speedway and at the tough quarter mile of Anderson Speedway.
