Career High Finish At Winchester Has 15-Year-Old Rookie, Austin Kunert Optimistic Heading Back To Springport

First track of the season that Batavia, Illinois teenager has raced at is up next

Batavia, Illinois (Tuesday, September 15, 2015): As the 2015 racing season continues for 15-year-old Austin Kunert within the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance, Kunert has experienced plenty of growth over the course of the year. In his first season behind the wheel of a full bodied stock car, every track that the Batavia, Illinois teenager has visited has been a new experience for him having never been to any facility on the 2015 schedule in eight races conducted. That will change with the ninth event of the fifth anniversary season for the Salem, Indiana based tour.

Kunert and his Lorz Motorsports Team will make a return visit to the fast 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval of Springport Motor Speedway, located north of Jackson and south of Lansing in Springport, Michigan. The Michigan Cup 100 Presented by JEGS.com on Saturday, September 19th will highlight the tracks door closing event of the year, the traditional Michigan Cup Weekend. Springport is also the site of Kunert’s debut in a Late Model where he stayed on the lead lap and finished a respectable 15th in the final rundown.

“I’m very positive heading into Springport this weekend, I have a lot more experience than the last time we were there, since that was my first race in a Late Model. We are also bringing a whole new set up.” Explained the Prairie State teenager as he gets ready for the first track of his Late Model career he has actually turned laps on. “I really need to thank all of our great sponsors and everyone with Lorz Motorsports, especially my family, who are all responsible for making all of this happen this season.” He added.

Kunert is coming off of a career high run to date as the famed 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Winchester Speedway (IN), located east of Muncie and west of the Indiana / Ohio state line in Winchester, Indiana hosted the Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com on Sunday, September 6th, which headlined the first day of the tracks prestigious Labor Day Holiday Weekend World Stock Car Festival. After starting 14th and avoiding the attrition and carnage that plagued the event, Kunert kept his nose clean and left the famed 1/2 mile with a career high sixth.

“I absolutely loved Winchester; I loved the speed and adrenaline rush you get.” Continued Kunert as he reflected upon his first experience at the wicked fast high-banks. “I did have one really close call on the back stretch as there was a huge wreck ahead of me. I didn’t see any opening so I just spun her down into the grass to keep from piling into the cars that blocked the track. Fortunately, we didn’t hurt the car or flat spotted the tires, so we were in good shape.”

“I would like to thank Lorz Motorsports for all their hard work that went into preparing and adjusting the car. Also really appreciate Joey Mucciacciaro for coming out and being my Driver Coach. It helped a lot; it was insane how fast you can go through the corners and not hit the wall.” He laughed. “All the guys did great with battling the heat and making me drink lots of water and Gatorade so I stayed hydrated in the race. I can’t wait to go back there again in October. I really felt like I learned the track very quickly and sooner than I thought I would have.” Kunert appreciatively stated.

In eight JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour races so far in 2015, all of which account for the Prairie State teenagers experience in a Late Model, he has scored two top 10 finishes with his season and career high of sixth at Winchester highlighting the year so far. Six of the eight races have resulted in at least a top 15 finish as he sits solidly in second in the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title chase while also an impressive fifth overall in the season long points battle. Kunert is locked in a battle for positions fifth through eighth overall, which are separated by only 26 markers.

For the remainder of the current race season within the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, Kunert’s black and blue #29 Lorz Motorsports / Ford Fusion will carry sponsorship decals and sticks from Blue Demon Welding Supplies as well as Kings Express, You-Fill-It Dumpsters, Custom Companies, X-Treme Graphics, Prince Industries, Lechler Incorporated, True Power Racing Oil and M.P.H.
