Speed 51.com Story – Harrison Burton and Ty Majeski went head-to-head for the second consecutive night at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) on Friday night. On the first night Majeski got the better of Burton, but on this night Burton got the better of Majeski in another classic duel. The two drivers swapped paint during the closing laps before Burton pulled away to win his second Super Late Model race at the 50th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
“Well… I honestly just had to move him out of the way,” Burton admitted live on the FansChoice.TV broadcast. “Ty is such a great race car driver that it’s hard to beat him otherwise. We had a restart there and he kind of did the same to me, so it wasn’t dirty by any means. I think it was just hard racing and it was a lot of fun.” When asked about the comment, Majeski took the high road saying that he and his Toby Nuttleman-led No. 91 team simply have to work harder to beat Burton.
“We’ve got to get our car a little bit better and hopefully we won’t be in that position for the 100 lapper,” said Majeski. “I’m not taking anything away from my guys or anything, they’ve worked so hard all week giving me really, really good race cars. We just need to get a little bit better to beat the 12.”
Florida native Stephen Nasse, defending champion Zane Smith and Chad Finley completed the top-five Friday night.
At the age of 15, Burton chalked up his win as the most exciting win he’s ever experienced during his young career.
“I’ve never really had a last few laps pass or anything like that, so it feels so good.”
Both of Burton’s wins during Florida Speedweeks have come behind the wheel of a backup car that was prepared after he suffered heavy damage to the primary car Saturday night.
“I think I expected to be a tenth slower in the first place, but we were like two tenths faster than the primary car,” he said. “You can’t count us out ever, we never quit no matter what and we keep fighting. I just can’t thank my guys enough.”
