Very Talented Group of Entries Ready to Race for the Big Bucks
Salem, IN. (August 2, 2016) – Spitzer Motor Speedway officials have announced that this Saturday’s Bud St. Amant Memorial 125 for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance will now pay $7000 to win, making it one of the highest paying Pro/Crate Late Model races in the country. With the help of Gary St. Amant, Spitzer Motor Speedway is proud to honor one last time local racing legend Bud St. Amant, who passed away in January, 2014 after a long bout with cancer.
The Bud St. Amant Memorial 125 will be 125 laps, counting yellows the first 75, teams cannot lose a lap under yellow. There will be a 10 minute break at lap 75 for teams to add fuel and make adjustments. Only green flag laps will count during the last 50 laps. The event is a four tire race that will pay $7000 to win down to $500 to start.
Cody Coughlin, the series 2013 Champion, is the series point’s leader heading into Saturday night’s race after winning the last two series events including Salem Speedway on June 18th and the series last event on July 23rd at Anderson Speedway. Coughlin got a second place finish and a fifth place finish in the other two series events contested so far this season. Coughlin is also the points leader in the ARCA/CRA Super Series were he has a series leading three wins so far this season. Coughlin is also competing in selected NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events during the 2016 season for Kyle Busch Motorsports.
Jack Smith is second in series points, he is now 70 points behind Coughlin after his day ended early at Anderson with rear-end problems. Phil Bozell is in third place, he is seven points behind Smith. Brandon Oakley is in fourth place, he is only two points behind Bozell. The top four in points are all entered for Saturday’s Bud St. Amant Memorial 125.
Other top CRA drivers entered for Saturday’s event include 2013 and 2014 ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion Travis Braden, Dakota Stroup, who’s crew chief is Gary St. Amant, Austin Kunert who is coming off a series best fifth place finish at Anderson, Andy Bozell, Scott Tomasik, who got a series best finish of second at Anderson, Jon Beach, Tristan Van Wieringen, Jay Sommers, Fred Hopkins, along with a great group of VanDoorn Racing Development Rookie of the Year drivers lead by rookie points leader 13 year old Michael Clancy Jr., Jack Dossey III, Hope Hornish, and Joshua James.
Florida native Stephen Nasse is entered driving for CRA veteran racer Rick Turner. Nasse scored a win with the CARS Super Late Model Tour last Saturday night at Orange County Speedway in North Carolina. 13 year old Michigan native Carson Hocevar is entered to make his second series start Saturday night. Hocevar set a new track record in claiming the Boyne Machine Company Fast Qualifier Award for the series Berlin Raceway event on June 11th, he finish fourth in his series debut. North Carolina racer Trevor Noles is entered, he had a series best finish of second in the May 14th Master of the Pros 144 event at Lebanon I-44 Speedway. Three time Columbus Motor Speedway Late Model Champion Chad Pendleton is also entered.
There is an open practice on Friday, pit gates open at 12noon with open practice from 1 to 5pm. Pit gates open on Saturday at 12noon, there will be a one hour practice session for CRA from 3 to 4pm. Boyne Machine Company Qualifying will begin at 5:15pm. There will be an autograph session starting at 6pm with all the drivers competing in the Bud St. Amant Memorial 125. The race program will begin at 7pm and will include the Bud St. Amant Memorial 125 for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. The rain date if needed will be Sunday, August 7th.
