Salem, IN (May 7, 2018) – Corbin, Kentucky’s Josh Brock is already a big winner in life and added to that joy by getting his first ever ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS win in Saturday night’s Aerco Heating & Cooling 125 at Anderson Speedway. In July of 2017 Brock was leading the ARCA/CRA Super Series Points standings and looked to be on his way to a great rookie season, when he had to quit racing after being diagnosed with cancer. Brock won that battle and was declared cancer-free on January 1st, and now can celebrate his first ever Super Late model victory.
“Wow this is great, the Kentucky boy got the win,” remarked a very happy Brock in victory lane. “What happened last year, it just lit a fire under this team, and it was hard, you know. Even at Nashville, we came out strong, but we didn’t get the finish we wanted, even though it was a top five and some people dream of that.”
Brock added, “I want to thank every one of my crew guys. My mom and dad are watching this on Speed 51.com TV right now. Travis Sauter got this car tuned up, Chris Wimmer back in the Carolinas, every one of these guys in red t-shirts worked their butts off during the week. And on top of that, this isn’t a rent a ride. This is our car. We work Monday through Friday and we come race on the weekend!”
2017 ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion and Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year Logan Runyon took the early lead from his pole starting position after EDCO Welding Fast Qualifier Brock drew a five for the inverted start. Runyon led the first caution free 57 laps until he made contact with Michael Simko, the last car on the lead lap, causing the events first yellow flag and sending both those cars to the pits for some minor repairs.
That incident handed the lead to series rookie Carson Hocevar, who led until lap 70, when Brock made his winning pass on lap 71 to grab the lead and earning the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award. The win wouldn’t come easy for Brock who had to fight off challenges for the lead from rookie Austin Kunert on several restarts over the last half of the event, including a restart with three laps to go.
Brock would keep the lead on the lap 122 restart and hold off Kunert to get the win. With the win Brock claimed the $5,000 first place money and earned an $800 bonus for the Team Construction Clean Sweep Award and his team was awarded the PitBoxes.com Pit Crew of the Race Award for their efforts in giving Brock a fast car all weekend.
Also Brock became the first driver to be locked into the Chase Championship format if he competes in at least 70% of the races leading up to the final four Chase events. Brock also earned a Road to Bristol guaranteed starting position for the U.S. Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway 100 lap Super Late Model feature.
Kunert would come in second, his best ever series finish and earn the Senneker Performance Rookie of the Race Award and the FLUIDYNE High Performance Cool Under Pressure Award. Brett Robinson came from his 10th place starting position to finish in third. Canadian Cayden Lapcevich finished in fourth. Kyle Crump came from his 15th place starting position to finish in fifth earning a Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award, as well as the Hamner Racing Engines Hardcharger Award and the Racing Electronics Hardcharger Award.
