Special from Speed51. com: CONCORD, N.C. – When the green flag waves for the inaugural Speed51 Super Select at Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) on September 8, the race will have the feel of a true Super Late Model All-Star Race. On Thursday afternoon, officials from the Champion Racing Association, Track Enterprises and Speed51.com released the first look at the entry list for the (minimum) $10,000 “Winner-Take-All” event.
A total of 20 drivers have already accepted their invites to compete in the Speed51 Super Select, a non-points race that will be sanctioned by the ARCA/CRA Super Series. In all, 14 different states and 10 short track touring series are represented on the current entry list.
2017 Winchester 400 winner Noah Gragson, who currently drives for Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, has accepted his invite to compete in the Speed51 Super Select. He’ll be joined by fellow KBM driver Harrison Burton, this year’s Rattler 250 winner, as they look to cash in on the $10,000 top prize.
2018 CRA SpeedFest winner and ARCA Racing Series winner Chandler Smith has also entered the event. At the age of 16, Smith is currently the youngest driver who has filed an entry for the race.
While Gragson, Burton and Smith will bring youth to the field, many of the nation’s top Super Late Model veterans will bring grit to the no-holds-barred contest.
Bubba Pollard (2017 Slinger Nationals winner), Brian Campbell (2018 Money in the Bank 150 winner), Preston Peltier (2017 & 2018 Summer Showdown winner) and Donnie Wilson (2016 Southern Super Series champion) have each accepted their invites to participate in the event.
A trio of current championship leaders will also be making the trip to Lucas Oil Raceway on September 8. ARCA Midwest Tour points leader and 2018 winner Austin Nason and ARCA/CRA Super Series points leader Josh Brock (won at Anderson Speedway earlier this year) have both accepted their invites for the race. From the other side of America, Jeremy Doss, the current SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series championship leader and Montana 200 victor, will be going for the checkers in this event.
Doss will not be the lone participant from the West Coast. Former SRL Tour champ and 2018 winner Derek Thorn will competing with his Campbell Motorsports Super Late Model team.
A variety of 2018 Late Model touring series winners from throughout North America will also be competing in the inaugural Speed51 Super Select.
Chris Dilbeck (CARS Tour winner), Derek Griffith (PASS North & South winner), Jesse Dutilly (Top Gun Super Six Winner), Matt Craig (PASS South winner), Matt Wallace (PASS South winner) and Roy Hayes III (RoC Late Model winner) will all be gunning for the $10,000 winner’s check.
The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will be well represented in Indy. Gus Dean (2018 ARCA winner at Elko) and Travis Braden (2015 ARCA winner at Lucas Oil Raceway) will both be strapping back into Late Models for one of the most anticipated events of the year.
Each member of the “Select Team” who has accepted their invite will receive free entry and four free tires for the race.
A limited number of additional invites will be sent out to 2018 race winners prior to the Speed51 Super Select on September 8. Drivers who do not receive an invite are encouraged to file an entry for the 30-lap qualifying race, “The Open,” that will be held prior to the main event. The inaugural Speed51 Super Select is a combination event with the USAC Silver Crown Series presented by Traxxas on Saturday, September 8 at Lucas Oil Raceway. The facility is located just up the road from that weekend’s Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Both races are being held just down the road from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the eve of the Brickyard 400.
