Illiana Motor Speedway (IN) & Columbus Motor Speedway (OH) next as end of the season specials begin
Wyoming, Michigan (Thursday, September 10, 2015): With the 2015 racing season at Berlin Raceway over, at least on the pavement side of things, it’s that time of the year where the season ending special events start to take center stage on the calendar. For Brian Campbell, it means it’s time to head back out on the road and revisit tracks where he has enjoyed success. That first such weekend comes on Saturday-Sunday, September 12-13th with races at Illiana Motor Speedway (IN) and Columbus Motor Speedway (OH) respectively.
Up first will be the 54th Annual Tony Bettenhausen Memorial 100 at Illiana on Saturday, September 12th, the fast 1/2 (0.500) mile semi-banked paved oval located southeast of Chicago, Illinois and just east of the Illinois / Indiana state line in Schererville, Indiana. Campbell is the Two-Time Defending Race Winner of the prestigious event and will go for the three-peat against a strong field of weekly Super Late Model competitors as well as four-time race victor, Eddie Hoffman and 2014 ARCA Midwest Tour Champion, Ty Majeski.
“The Bettenhausen is such a fun race to run in. It’s a pretty big deal in the Chicagoland area and I really like Illiana. Looking forward to heading back there to see if we can make it three in a row,” Remarked the 36-year-old driver from Wyoming, Michigan as he and his Lakeshore Motorsports Team prepare for the trip south. “We’ve been pretty fortunate to win the last two, especially with as strong as the fields have been for both shows. It’s going to be a tough task to do it all again. I know there’s going to be a strong field there again and they’re not too keen on an outsider coming in and taking their money.” He smiled.
After Illiana, Campbell and his team will then make the trek east to another track where he has seen success; the 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-banked, circular shaped paved oval of Columbus Motor Speedway, located southeast of Columbus in Obetz, Ohio on a special Sunday afternoon, September 13th. Campbell will return to ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS racing and will run in the 2nd Annual Bud St. Amant Memorial 125 Presented by Oakley Blacktop. Campbell has been to victory lane once in ARCA/CRA competition back on August 28th, 2010. He was also the winner of the prestigious Main Event, one of the biggest Outlaw Super Late Model races in the country, back on October 1st, 2006.
“I really like going to Columbus. It reminds me a lot of Berlin in so many ways and we’ve always been strong every time we’ve raced there.” Continued Campbell. “We’re looking forward to all of these end of the season shows throughout the Midwest. We’re going to some tracks that have been good to us in the past. Didn’t like losing the Berlin title by one point. So we’re hoping to go traveling and get some more wins and end the year on a high note.” Campbell ended.
During the 2015 racing season at his home track of Berlin, he recorded four Feature wins in the tracks Boyne Machine Company Super Late Model Series. He finished second in the tracks mini-series points by just a single marker behind 2015 Champion, Ross Meeuwsen. By concentrating on Berlin’s Template Super Late Model Series, he has missed four races within the ARCA/CRA Super Series.
Still, he remains an impressive seventh in the season long point’s standings with two victories. Those wins came at Toledo Speedway (OH) back on April 11th and at his home track of Berlin on May 16th. In those seven appearances and in addition to the trips to victory lane, he has a total of three top fives and five top 10 finishes plus one Fast Qualifier award, also at Berlin on May 16th. He also recently won in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance appearance at Berlin on August 1st.
The JEGS/CRA win at Berlin in the Berlin 100 Presented by JEGS.com & Boyne Machine Company was his third victory in that tour in only four career starts in the Crate motored series. Campbell was the winner of the inaugural race for the tour back on April 23rd, 2011 at Toledo and in his last JEGS/CRA appearance prior to Berlin back on September 1st, 2012 at Owosso Speedway (MI); Campbell also went to victory lane. Ironically prior to the August 1st race, he had never made a JEGS/CRA start at his home track.
