Late Season Point Battles and Multiple Season Ending Major Events Cited as possible Reasons for low driver registrations, forcing the Cancellation
Salem, IN (August 7, 2018) – Berlin Raceway officials notified Champion Racing Association Powered by JEGS officials today that they are unfortunately canceling the “Primera Plastics Battle at Berlin 251” originally scheduled for Monday, August 13th. Track officials noted that they only had 11 entries to date and were unsure they could achieve the superior car counts they have experienced in the past for the event. Earlier in the year Berlin hosted another larger event, the “Money In The Bank 150” which had over 40 pre-registered entries and ended up having one of the best late race battles the track has seen in years between Campbell, Pollard, Busch and VanDoorn. The event was a non-points event on both the ARCA/CRA Super Series schedule and the Berlin Super Late Model schedule. At the same time, many teams are preparing for late season championship runs, and many teams are saving equipment for those points earning events. Additionally, teams are preparing for other major events near the seasons’ end.
“This is unfortunate and something that we have never experienced before, but we just can’t hold an event like this with 10 or 11 cars.” noted Berlin Raceway General Manager Nick Mesman. “Not only us here at Berlin but our sponsors, spectators and fellow competitors have very high expectations for this event and we felt it wasn’t fair to our fans nor our sponsors and racers to experience anything less. As a result we unfortunately have to cancel this year’s event. It does allow the racers to focus on their remaining track and series championship runs, as well as prepare for other major competing events. We here at Berlin are extremely sorry for the inconvenience to the teams who have prepared for this event as well as the sponsors and the spectators planning on attending. We will evaluate all of the details from this year, and build a plan that will ensure the Battle at Berlin 251 experiences the success that it has had in the past.”
Berlin officials did note that they are aware and thankful of the teams that were planning on participating at the 2018 “Battle @ Berlin 251 presented by Primera Plastics” and the time & money that they have already incorporated into it will not go unnoticed. Though they cannot predict the amounts already incurred by each team, Berlin Raceway will not only be refunding each teams entry but will also credit them an entry fee and a set of tires to both the 2019 Money In The Bank 150 as well as the 2019 Battle @ Berlin 251.
