Salem, IN. (July 19, 2017) – The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance will return to action this Saturday at Baer Field Motorsports Park located just south of Fort Wayne, Indiana. This will be the first ever series event at Baer Field, which has hosted events for the other three CRA divisions in years past and again in 2017. The event was originally scheduled as the season opener on April 30th, but was postponed because of heavy rain to May 7th, but that event also had to be postponed because of flooding at the track caused by more heavy rain.
Saturday’s Summer Showcase 100 will be the sixth race of the season for the crate late model series sanctioned by Champion Racing Association. Cole Williams won the series season opener on May 21st at Bristol Motor Speedway and the “Masters of the Pro’s” 144 at Lebanon I-44 Speedway on July 3rd. Jack Smith won the series second event of the season on June 17th at Salem Speedway. Rookie Carson Hocevar won on July 9th at Kil-Kare Raceway, becoming the youngest winner ever with the series. Michigan veteran racer Brian Campbell won this past Saturday’s event at Berlin Raceway.
With their wins Hocevar and Smith are the first drivers to be locked into the new Chase Championship format if they compete in at least 75% of the races leading up to the final four Chase events.
With his second place finish last Saturday at Berlin Raceway, Carson Hocevar has taken over the series Championship points lead. Hocevar is also leading the Howie Lettow Rookie of the Year Award Presented by VanDoorn Racing Development points. Jack Dossey III is in second place, he is 12 points behind Hocevar. Last Saturday’s 11th place finish for Dossey III was his first finish outside the top five so far this season.
Austin Kunert is third in series points, he is 20 points behind Dossey III. Michael Clancy Jr. is fourth in points, he is 30 points behind Kunert. Smith is fifth in series points, he is 55 points behind Clancy Jr. All the top five in series points are entered for Saturday’s race.
Other top CRA drivers entered for the Saturday include Thomas Woodin, Trever McCoy, Anthony Danta, Jerry Andrews, Jay Sommers, James Krueger and VanDoorn Racing Development rookies Hope Hornish and Thomas Hufferd. Campbell is also entered to try and win his second series event in a row.
Former ARCA/CRA Super Series winner Terry Fisher Jr. leads the list of locals drivers entered. Fisher Jr. will be driving for Scott Coe Motorsports, with whom he has four CRA Late Model Sportsman victories over the past two seasons. Former Angola Motor Speedway series winner Jason Dietsch is entered. Former CRA Late Model Sportsman regular Tommy Cook is entered, he is a multi-time late model winner at Baer Field and won a CRA Late Model Sportsman event at Anderson Speedway last season.
Former Columbus Motor Speedway Champion Donnie “Zero” Hill is entered for his second series event of the season, while Shadybowl Speedway Late Model Champion Josh Smith is entered to make his series debut.
There is an open practice scheduled for Friday, pit gates open at 4pm, practice will run from 5pm until 8pm. Pit gates open on Saturday at 12noon, with a one hour practice session for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour starting at 2:15pm. Fury Race Cars qualifying for the Summer Showcase 100 will start at 6:15pm. The race program will begin at 7 pm, also racing that night will be the Baer Field Late Model Sportsman, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and FWD’s.
