Canadian Teenager ready to return to the site of first ever win
Corunna, Michigan (Wednesday, September 15, 2015): As the 2015 racing season is drawing to a close, 17-year-old Tristan Van Wieringen has already experiences a run of good fortune by finishing seventh in the final ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Northern Division points standings. Having raced the open-wheeled Modified primarily in 2015, Van Wieringen has also made appearances in the last two JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance events and scored his first career Fast Qualifier award at the most famous short track of all; Winchester Speedway.
Now with the Mod season for the Canadian teenager complete, the focus shifts squarely to the template bodied / crate motored car starting on Saturday, September 19th with a return trip to the site of his first ever Feature win in a full-sized racecar. The 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval of Springport Motor Speedway, located north of Jackson and south of Lansing in Springport, Michigan will host the JEGS/CRA contingent on Saturday, September 19th in the running of the Michigan Cup 100 Presented by JEGS.com.
“As much as we were looking forward to Owosso Speedway last month (Race on August 29th that was rained out), we are really excited about going back to Springport. I have a lot of memories there and we’ve been successful there in the past,” Offered the Amherstburg, Ontario driver as he and his DuroByte Motorsports Team prepares for the return trip to the south Michigan facility. As a 15-year-old raw rookie, Van Wieringen, in only his third career start in full-sized racecars, scored the Feature Win in the open-wheeled Modifieds division at Springport back on June 8th, 2013.
In two JEGS/CRA starts in 2015, Van Wieringen has qualified fourth quick, at Auto City Speedway (MI) on August 8th and won his first career Fast Qualifier award at the legendary high-banks of Winchester Speedway (IN) on September 6th. While the results haven’t been what the Canadian has been searching for, he’s been fast in both shows this season and expects that to continue at Springport.
“We really have a good shot at winning this one. (Crew Chief) Jimmy D. (Smith) always gives me the very best car capable of winning every time out and makes absolutely sure we are always 100% ready to go,” He continued. “I’m very happy to be able to finish the year in the Pro Late Model and build towards the future. going to Winchester is really something special. I’m hoping for a solid finish and build some momentum for the rest of the JEGS/CRA season.” He ended.
In 2014, Van Wieringen recorded a 10th place finish in JEGS/CRA points in his rookie season behind the wheel of a Late Model. His freshman year was highlighted by an impressive third place finish at the famed Milwaukee Mile (WI). Throughout the 2015 campaign prior to getting back behind the wheel of the DuroByte Pro Late Model, Van Wieringen was impressive in his ICAR Modified with a best finish being a fourth place showing at Springport back on June 20th, which was one of his two top five finishes. He has also recorded five top 10 showings as well.
For the remainder of the 2015 season within the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, Van Wieringen will pilot the #81 DuroByte Motorsports / Ford Fusion and will have sponsorship support and decals from Nalett Trucking, Howe Racing Enterprises, JEGS.com, Keyser Manufacturing, Fastenal Corporation, Phil Harper Motorsports by Ilmor, AR Bodies and M.P.H.
