Atkinson Gets His Fourth Win of the 2021 Season at Mt. Lawn Speedway

Salem, IN (June 15, 2021) – New Castle, Indiana native Jason Atkinson continued his great beginning to the 2021 Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS season by getting the win in Sunday evenings Van Hoy Oil 40 at Mt. Lawn Speedway. The win was Atkinson’s fourth win of the season, including a win at Anderson Speedway on April 17th, a win at Shadybowl Speedway on May 1st, a win at Winchester Speedway on June 5th and Sunday’s win.

“It’s great to get a win here at Mt. Lawn Speedway in my hometown,” remarked Atkinson in victory lane. “It’s been a pretty good season so far, but that can all change in the blink of eye. Just want to thank everyone that supports this team: Danny Acrey, QS Components, Kar Korner and Jim’s Auto Sales. Hopefully, we can keep it rolling at Anderson in a couple of weeks.”

Former series Champion Jimmy Kirby grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag from his pole starting position after Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Atkinson drew a six for the events invert. Kirby held the lead through the early laps while Atkinson charged through the field from his sixth place starting position to start putting pressure on Kirby for first place. Kirby would exit the short turn high on lap 14 giving Atkinson the room he needed to make the pass and take over the lead.

The caution flew on lap 29 when contact between Brian Hopkins and Kevin Claborn resulted in Claborn spinning. The two would tangle under caution, resulting in Claborn being parked and disqualified from the event, while Hopkins was forced to retire from the event with damage.

Atkinson kept the lead on the restart and would stretch his lead out over the last 11 laps to win by almost a full second. For his charge through the field early in the event Atkinson picked up the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award.

Kirby finished in second. Andrew Teepe finished in third place. Frankie Oakes finished in fourth. Jordan Hahn came from his ninth place starting position to finish in fifth place picking up the KRJ Race Products Sweet Move of the Race Award.

The next Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks next event will be the third Four Crown Event of the season on Saturday, June 26th at Anderson Speedway. More information on all the CRA Series is available at www.cra-racing.com.
