Salem, IN (September 21, 2020) – Mooreland, Indiana native Jason Atkinson finally got his first Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks Powered by JEGS win of the 2020 season in Sunday’s Fall Brawl 40 at Lucas Oil Raceway. Atkinson had finished in second the last three series events in 2020, but finally broke through to get the win and claim the CRA Fall Brawl event signature trophy that includes a pair of boxing gloves.
“Finally, we got that second-place monkey off our backs,” remarked Atkinson in victory lane. “It’s always cool to win at Fall Brawl and pick up another set of boxing gloves. I want to thank my car owner Danny Acrey, I appreciate everything he does to allow me to race his cars!”
Josh Poore grabbed the lead at the drop of the second green flag after the event did not get to start on the first try after James Wayne spun and made hard contact with the inside wall in turn one. That was the only caution for the event. Poore got to start on the pole after Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Atkinson drew a six for the events inverted start.
Atkinson quickly worked his way past several cars in the opening laps from his sixth place starting position using the bottom groove. Atkinson made the move past Poore to grab the lead on lap six. Atkinson’s win was not easy thanks to Chad Pendleton, who worked his way into second and battled side by side with Atkinson for several laps before his car started to do away towards the end. Atkinson would stay up front and grab the win by just under a half second over Pendleton.
For his pass to get the win, Atkinson picked up the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award. For his tough battle with Atkinson, Pendleton was awarded the KRJ Race Products Sweet Move of the Race Award.
Alan Williams Jr. finished in third place after a tough battle with Zach Henderson and Troy Phillips for the third spot for several laps. It was Williams Jr. best finish with the series this season. Henderson finished in fourth. Andrew Teepe came from his ninth place starting position to finish in fifth place.
Atkinson was already locked in to the four Chase for the Championship drivers, who will compete for the series 2020 Championship at the Season Championship event on Saturday, October 10th of Winchester 400 Weekend as the regular season Champion. Remaining Chase for the Championship drivers Josh Poore, Andrew Teepe, Brandon Roberts, Chad Pendleton, Alan Williams Jr. and Troy Phillips will all be racing for the other three positions in the final four drivers to race for the series 2020 Championship, this Saturday in the third Chase event at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The next Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks event will be this Saturday, September 26th as part of the Pinty’s U.S. Short Track Nationals Presented by Vore’s Welding & Steel at Bristol Motor Speedway. More information on all the CRA Series can be found at www.cra-racing.com.
