Speed51.com Story – With two races left on the ARCA/CRA Super Series schedule, Dalton Armstrong finds himself locked in a tight points battle for the series title. The Indiana driver trails current points leader Cody Coughlin by 26 points heading into this weekend’s event, the Fall Brawl at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana.
While most of the hype surrounds the championship battle, Armstrong all but has Rookie of the Year honors wrapped up, needing to just start the final races. As the 22-year-old driver prepares to make a run for top honors, his main objective is staying focused on what he can control.
“Rookie of the Year is definitely a nice achievement,” Armstrong told Speed51.com powered by JEGS. “Going into the last two races I’m not going to really worry about the points. We need to just try and do our best and get a little bit better at Lucas Oil Raceway and try and win. We can only control what we do so we are going to try and win the last two races because that’s all we can do.”
Armstrong already boasts two Super Series wins this season, one of which came at Anderson Speedway in the Redbud 300.
However, as he tries to close the points gap this weekend, he travels to a track that provided challenges for his No. 4 team. Back in July, Armstrong struggled at Lucas Oil Raceway, settling for an 11th place finish, only his second finish outside the top-ten this year.
“That track has been a hard track for me,” said Armstrong. “It’s such a critical place with handling and if you’re off it’s hard to be fast. We will try and get better and see how the weekend goes.”
Even though the season is winding down and an ARCA/CRA Super Series title is within his reach, Armstrong is trying to approach the final two races with the same mentality he started the year with.
“I’m just trying to focus on winning races and trying to get our cars better,” said Armstong. “Just like I was going into the season, just keep digging.”
Armstrong did run strong at last year’s Fall Brawl, earning a fourth-place finish in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour on his way to the 2015 championship in that series.
