Salem, IN. (August 30, 2018) – The ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS will continue its 2018 Chase for the Championship this Monday on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway as part of the Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival, one of the biggest stock car events held each year in Central Indiana. The weekend will feature exciting racing action from the ARCA/CRA Super Series, JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance, ICAR Modifieds, Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman, Lawrence Towing CRA Street Stocks, Vores Touring Compacts and Thunder Roadsters. Camping will be available all weekend and there will also be the annual Sunday night party in the pavilion featuring live music.
This event always brings out the best of CRA and some of the best drivers from around the country as they prepare for the 47th Annual Winchester 400, which will take place on Sunday, October 14th. Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Noah Gragson won last year’s exciting Winchester 400. The ARCA/CRA Super Series has had 47 events to date at Winchester Speedway. Three time ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion Johnny VanDoorn is the series all-time winner at Winchester Speedway with five wins.
Josh Brock currently leads the 2018 Chase for the Championship points of the six drivers trying to win the series 2018 Championship. With non-Chase driver VanDoorn winning the series 2018 Chase for the Championship opener at Kalamazoo Speedway on August 8th, points will be very important over the next two Chase events as only the top four drivers will get to compete for the series 2018 Championship in the Winchester 400.
Senneker Performance Rookie of the Year point’s leader Austin Kunert is second in Chase points, he is eight points behind Brock. Fellow rookie Jon Beach is in third place, he is 10 points behind Kunert. Hunter Jack is in fourth place, he is two points behind Beach. 2017 series Champion and Rookie of the Year Logan Runyon is in fifth place, he is four points behind Jack. Greg Van Alst is in sixth place, he is six points behind Runyon. All six of the Chase drivers are entered for Monday’s event.
Other top CRA drivers entered includes defending event winner Dalton Armstrong, three time series Champion Scott Hantz, two time series winner Eddie Van Meter, 2017 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event winner Kyle Crump, 2017 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion Jack Dossey III, former series winner Terry Fisher Jr., J.P. Crabtree, Rich Segvich and former series competitor Scott Whitehouse who will be making his 2018 series debut.
Former ARCA/CRA Super Series Winchester winner Rick Turner is entered. Turner, the series all-time leader in starts, semi-retired at the end of last season, but will make his first series start of the season on Monday.
Former two-time series Labor Day event winner Jeff Fultz is entered. The Mooresville, North Carolina native is a former regular competitor on the High Banks in several divisions prior to moving to North Carolina to further his racing career. Fultz will have his Fury Race Car ready to try for a third series Labor Day Weekend win.
Several drivers from around the country are entered to prepare for the upcoming Winchester 400 including Kyle Busch Motorsports racer Rapheal Lessard, who picked up a series win at Bristol Motor Speedway in May and won the Redbud 400 at Anderson Speedway in July. NASCAR Xfininity driver and former CRA Winchester winner Kyle Benjamin will practice and qualify the car for Lessard, who will be racing in Canada on Sunday. Lessard will travel from Canada to Winchester on Monday to start at the rear of the field in an effort to get more experience for the Winchester 400.
Former series competitor Mason Mingus is entered to get ready for the Winchester 400. The Tennessee native will be driving a car for famed Crew Chief Ritchie Wauters. Mingus is a former ARCA Racing Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitor who now does his racing in big Super Late Model events around the country now.
California racer Tyler Ankrum is entered. Ankrum is the current point’s leader in the NASCAR K & N Pro East Series and has three wins so far this season with that series.
There will be an open practice for all divisions on Saturday, pits open at 10am, and rotating practice will go from 1pm until 5pm. There will be security at the track all weekend so teams can leave their equipment in the track. Pits open on Sunday at 8am, practice will begin at 10am with qualifying starting at 3pm. Racing action on Sunday will begin at 5pm and will include heat races for the ICAR Modifieds, CRA Late Model Sportsman, CRA Street Stocks, Thunder Roadsters and the Vores Touring Compacts. The Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour will be the first feature of the night and will be followed by a 20 lap feature for the Vores Touring Compacts. The traditional Sunday night party will begin after the racing is completed.
Pits open on Monday at 10am. The first of six feature events will start at 1pm with the 20 lap Thunder Roadsters feature, then the 40 lap CRA Late Model Sportsman feature, then the 100 lap ARCA/CRA Super Series feature, then the 40 lap ICAR Modifieds feature, then the 30 lap Vores Touring Compacts feature, with the 40 lap CRA Street Stocks feature ending the day.
