New Castle, IN (August 14, 2017) – Shawn Amor had never been to Mt Lawn Speedway but he learned quickly how to get around the egg-shaped oval to win his first Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS event of the season on Sunday evening.
“That was pretty smooth” Amor commented. “I am sorry I got into (RJ) Norton at the beginning. I had never seen the track before, not even on You Tube. This is the biggest crowd I have raced in front of in a while, and it’s always great to race in front of a crowd like this.”
The win was the first CRA Late Model Sportsman win for car owner for Doug Tarman and the first series race Amor has driven for Tarman, since taking over in the driver’s seat earlier in the season. It was Amor’s first series win since the 2015 season opener at Lucas Oil Raceway. Amor was also the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier.
Donnie Hill took off from his front row starting position to take the early lead, as drivers adjusted to the track. The racing was tight for the early part of the race, when Amor roared to the lead on the 30th lap. Two laps later Norton pulled into second, but he could not keep up with Amor. The race was clean with only one caution on the 39th lap when a flat tire caused Mark Lambert to spin in the first turn.
The battle for fourth was tight as Jason Neal and Tyler Marsh traded that position for several laps before Neal came out on top. Neal then hunted down Hill but could not get past him for third as they raced to the line, with Hill beating him by less than one tenth of a second.
Following Amor, Norton finished second, Hill third, Neal fourth and Marsh fifth.
The next Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman event will be this Saturday on the ½ mile track at Baer Field Motorsports Park. More information on all the CRA Series is available at www.cra-racing.com.
