Career high fifth place finish in last JEGS/CRA race at Columbus moves him into a logjam atop freshman standings
Avon, Indiana (Tuesday, June 30, 2015): Mother Nature’s continued disruption of the 2015 racing season across the country has Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title contender, 19-year-old Quinnton Bear and the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance sitting idle waiting to get back into action. One of the biggest Pro Late Model events in the country, the 3rd Annual Mercy Masters of the Pros 144 is set for Saturday, July 4th at Lebanon I-44 Speedway (MO) located southwest of St. Louis in Lebanon, Missouri.
The event, which will pay a whopping $8,000 to the winner, is ironically one of those JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour events that was postponed due to the weather. Originally set for May 30th, the race will now be part of the tracks celebration of the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend. Bear has been anxious to get back out on the race track. So much so that he entered the ARCA/CRA Super Series race at Columbus Motor Speedway (OH) on June 27th, the site of his last event, a JEGS/CRA race back on May 23rd. Unfortunately, that race was also rained out.
“What a disappointing last month or so due to Mother Nature. We had a great car for the Bud St. Amant memorial. (Crew Chief) Gary (St. Amant) for sure gave us a car to win. This team needs a race very bad.” The Hoosier State teenager relayed “It’s been an unbelievable summer with all the rain. We have a lot to show on the track. We have a great car and a great team and when you have all of this you want to race every chance you get, so it’s very disappointing not to race due to multiple rain outs. Plus I feel bad for the sponsors that makes all of this happen for us. I can’t show how good we are and take care of them advertising wise.” He added.
“Now we’re focusing on I-44 and we’re very excited to show up there with a large field and great talented of drivers. We will need to be on our A game. Continued Bear. “I have all the confidence in Gary in giving a great car. I’m so excited for this weekend. It’s for sure my biggest race so far. We need a good finish and we have some big goals this year. We feel this is a huge opportunity to gain some points as well.” He ended.
In his last race, way back on May 23rd in the Memorial 100 Presented by JEGS.com at Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio. Bear overcame going to the rear of the field twice to post his first career top five finish, a fifth in the debut with his new Crew Chief, Gary St. Amant. That finish moved him into 11th overall in the standings and fifth in the chase for the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title chase.
