Famed high-banks to host the 44th Running of prestigious race
Harrison, Michigan (Thursday, October 1, 2015): Grant Quinlan, the ARCA/CRA Super Series Overall and Rookie of the Year point’s leader has moved one step closer to history within the Salem, Indiana based series. The Harrison, Michigan rising star finished fourth in the last race, the EDCO Welding & Hydraulics 100 Presented by Quarter Master at the immaculate Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) on Sunday, September 27th. In addition to earning a slew of awards, including his sixth Senneker Performance Rookie of the Race award of the year. He now has an opportunity to make history.
The 16-year-old driver of the #28 International Tool & Mold / Chevrolet has a nearly insurmountable lead in both the overall and freshman points’ standings and merely needs to only start the 44th Running of the Winchester 400 on Sunday, October 11th at the legendary 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Winchester Speedway (IN) to become the third rookie in the series’ 19-year history to win the overall title. He would join Scott Hantz (2000) and Derrick Griffin (2011) on that coveted list.
“It’s been a great season, the ARCA/CRA Super Series Super Late Models are a lot different than the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Pro Late Models to drive and to analyze feed back to the crew,” Explained the soon to be crowned ARCA/CRA Champion and top freshman. “We’re hoping for a good run in the Winchester 400. This is my favorite race track that we go too and this is the biggest race I’ve ever been a part of. We would love to end the ARCA/CRA season on an even higher note in the biggest race of the year.” He added.
In addition to his ARCA/CRA Super Series schedule, Quinlan has also made three appearances in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and has been impressive. In his K&N debut, he was very impressive in scoring a runner-up showing after a thrilling battle with Rico Abreu at Columbus Motor Speedway on July 4th. He has at least one more K&N race remaining in 2015, at Phoenix International Raceway (AZ) on November 12th.
In the 13 ARCA/CRA Super Series races conducted so far in 2015, Quinlan has one victory which came at Baer Field Speedway (IN) on August 22nd in the Summit City 100 Presented by Trucking Fort Wayne on August 22nd. In addition, he also has five top five finishes, an impressive 11 showings and he has also recorded two Fast Qualifier awards. He is also fifth in the Lap Leaders category behind Brian Campbell, Erik Jones, Hunter Baize and John-Hunter Nemechek as he has been out in front for 155 circuits.
During the 2014 season, his first behind the wheel of a full-bodied stock car, Quinlan was awarded the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. He rewrote the record books in a number of ways during his freshman campaign in JEGS/CRA. In addition to finishing third in points, just two markers behind 2014 Runner-Up, Josh Nelms, he also collected two victories, the most of any rookie driver in JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour history. Those wins came at Salem Speedway (IN) on June 21st and at Springport Motor Speedway (MI) on September 20th.
